Unreleased David Cassidy's Songs. Part 1
It's a fascinating topic ( thank you Jacque Cardenas for inspiration), and of course we would love to know and have released everything David Cassidy ever recorded or performed, on stage, or during his TV performances, and we'd love to have demos too..
We want to have everything, but nothing depends on us. Copyright is the word, and I'm not competent enough to write about it.
All unreleased songs can be roughly divided into the following categories :
1.UNRELEASED SONGS FROM BELL RECORDS
- tracks that were planned to appear on a record or TV show. Eg. 'I Was Running The Opposite Way' (Irwin Levine and L.Russell Brown), from the Bulletin Board sessions. I love it. It's so charming and addictive, and David's voice like honey.
I think we can also include to this category rejected songs, released with limited distribution. Like those demos rejected by Wes Farrell and later released by DC's own record label, Slamajama, in 1998. This album is called 'David Cassidy's Partridge Family's Favorites'. There are 12 songs on it, among them the other version of 'Warm My Soul' and two own David's songs Wes didn't like or thought they were not good enough. 'Sweetness' and 'Mystical Lady'.
And of course songs performed on the TV show, but not on a Partridge Family album. Quite a lot of them actually. Yes, there are those Missing Pieces CDs but it's a bootleg compilation.
We also know that one more album was planned after Bulletin Board, but nothing came out of it. We have a special page on the website about those unreleased songs from Bell.
2. UNRELEASED LIVE SONGS. CONCERTS RECORDED BY FANS
It's even more painful, because David was outstanding live performer, always. During his concerts in the 70s he played the hits of course, but also the songs he loved.
Thanks to Betty Ernst (I wish I knew something about her), who attended DC's concerts with her casette recorder, we have a few concert audios. She is the only one person who shared David Cassidy's concert audios from 1971 and 1972 with us. And later Lucio converted the tapes to digital. Amazing. Still it's not easy listening to them.
On June 10, 1972 David Cassidy played concert at Nassau County Colliseum, and we have an audio and a set list, for me truly sensational. He was singing 'Ricky's Tune', and 'I'm Here You're Here', 'Two Time Loser' and Clapton's Blues Power. Some Partridge Family's hits David performed as a medley, and it's obvious that he wanted first of all to sing his own hits or songs that he loved.
We also have a priceless audio recording of David's March 11, 1973, De Doelen, Rotterdam concert. recorded not by a fan, but by Radio Nederland. This audio is of great quality and it's so emotional listening to it. Amazing, breathtaking David Cassidy's performance. Just close your eyes and listen to this..Magic.
