Unreleased David Cassidy's Songs. Part 2

David Cassidy played his last concert in the 70s in 1974. Fans had to wait 11 years to see David, a pop singer, again on stage. Only in the UK, in 1985. A live album recorded in London was released in 1986. In the 90s some of those recordings were released in France and Australia. We have CDs and  DVD from some of David's concerts in the UK in the 21st century. And there are a lot of videos and audios (on the website and on YT) from his concerts played in the US.

I talked with my friend Doreen about it yesterday, and she drew my attention to the fact that there had never been released a live David Cassidy's concert album in the US..In his native country.

I wish we had at least 2 David Cassidy's American live albums. 'David Cassidy Live at Mohegan Sun', he loved playing there, and 'David Cassidy Live at B.B. King Blues Club'.

Oh yes. Just incredible.

3. UNRELEASED LIVE SONGS. TELEVISION SHOWS. RADIO

We are so lucky that David Cassidy often was singing live while guest starred on many various TV shows, during his long career. Some songs are outstanding live versions of his hits, usually different and often better. 'I Am a Clown', 'Cherish' or ITILY, to name a few.  He performed  songs from the musical theatre. 'Any Dream Will Do', 'Give My Regards To Broadway' or 'In My Defence'.

There are also songs never recorded and released, and only performed once, live, on TV. His duo with Bob Hope, with Glen Campbell, or with his father (Danny Boy). 'As Time Goes By' . 'April Showers' on Fantasy Island episode.  And last but not least. 'Then I'll Be Someone'.

We would have never heard about 'Crazy Over You' if David hadn't performed it on the Mark and Brian in May 1989.

4. UNRELEASED SONGS WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT

We know of about 200 DC's unreleased songs, and I've written only about some of them. But probably there are many more. We have only 1 audio concert recording from 1971, and that year he played 40 gigs. 1972 - 12 audios, and DC played more than 50 concerts! First of all David was singing his hits and Partridge Family's, but who knows what else. We don't have all videos from his TV guest starred appearances.

3 years ago, in November 2021, this truly wonderful and kind man, Jay Gruska, anwered my email, and sent me 3 minute version of HardTimes, he wrote with David in the late 70s. The only thing he insisted was always to give credit (David Cassidy, Jay Gruska) whenever I posted it. It was so emotional listening to it for the very first time. And it's still emotional. Amazing quality, DC's fabulous, magical voice in my headphones...

Yes, it was wonderful, btw the same month Jay Gruska was on Louise Poynton's podcast, and he told us the story how David came to his house and how fast they wrote that song together. And about other opportunities when he met DC in the late 80s and in the 90s. And every time David was very warm and the same, but on the set of Ruby, Jay Gruska met different David Cassidy, still smiling, but lost. Jay said, 'I felt the struggle'. Great interview. Jay Gruska became also a close Shaun's Cassidy friend. Here is the link to that amazing conversation.

I know we are very lucky because first of all Jay Gruska is a very kind man, and secondly he actually  had this recording for 43 years. And it's made me think about those other musicians who wrote songs with David Cassidy..Bill House, Gerry Beckley, Kim Carnes and Dave Ellingson, and first of all Sue Shiffrin. They wrote quite a lot of songs together, David and Sue..There were demos and sheet music, and lyrics written down on a sheet of paper. They changed houses many times. They divorced.. Yes, we are so lucky that Jay Gruska didn't get rid of this recording, and that he still remembers his friend, David..
