David Cassidy, One Of The 60 Iconic Male Singers Who Shaped the 70s Decade
A long title today, but 3 days ago I got such a list on Google Alerts, published by something called Gigwise, whatever it is. Anyone can make such a list, but yes, I've thought about it today.
Sure David had his share in shaping the 70s decade. He was fighting all his life to make people forget about it a little bit and also appreciate what he recorded and did later. But the most popular DC's video on YT is of course the one with 20 year- old David singing 'I Think I Love You' on The Larry Kane Show.

5,7 mln views, over 3k comments...When I became a die-hard DC fan in 2017, my older daughter said, 'You know mum, I've checked this David of yours..and really, such a boy, sure a pretty one, but a kid..and I Think I Love You!!! You and this kind of music!?'. That's the problem with David. How to explain that he was surprised himself, that it was just the beginning, and which video recommend to watch, something typical for him. Such one typical song or one typical video doesn't exist. When I was on a trip in the USA, one woman from our group asked me to show her a DC video. I showed her 'Tomorrow'. She liked it and wanted more, so the next one was 'The Last Kiss'. The look on her face, ' This is the same singer???'
And for example when you check Barry Manilow on YT, everything is clear from the start, 'Mandy' and millions of views, and you know what kind of a singer Barry is. Always was.

But let's return to the list of The 60 Iconic etc. First there are listed Rock Legends. Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Alice Cooper, the last one at #13 - Rod Stewart. Next there are Soul and R&B Giants, starting with Marvin Gaye. Pop Icons starting with Elton John at # 27. Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, John Denver and for unknown reason George Michael. David is in that category, at number 37. There are also Country Music Stars, and on the last one there are singers difficult to classify. This category called 'Other Notable Artists' starts with Harry Nilsson.
Of course such a list is not reliable. I can name many other singers very important in the 70s, but not listed. John Lennon, George Harrison, Cat Stevens or Bob Marley. What about Elvis? But David is usually forgotten and overlooked on such lists, so it was nice to find his name for a change. Just once. Remembered as an Iconic Singer, not just an Iconic Teen Idol.
