Playing Drums.
About one month ago I found rather unusal cover of DC's song. It was unusual because of the song itself, 'Damned If This Ain't Love', from David Cassidy 2nd RCA album, 'Home Is Where The Heart Is', released in 1976 ; and because it was called, 'Drum cover'.
I've been at first a little bit suspicious, but this is just fabulous. And I love how the drummer enjoys playing this wonderful, full of joy and energy song. His playing and David's raspy, sexy voice make it even better. I published the link to it on my FB page and one of my friends (Maya James) commented, 'Makes you want to learn.' Exactly!

I'm sure David Cassidy would have loved it. He was a very good drummer himself. As we know, in the 60s, he got a very special present from Sal Mineo. Sal Mineo, born in 1939, nominated for Academy Award when he was 17, a former teen idol..he really liked David. And gave him amazing and very generous present. The set of drums Sal used when he starred in the film called The Gene Krupa Story.
Elliot Silverstein, David's stepfather, "I'd just finished a TV show with Sal Mineo and he took a liking to my wife and me and to David. David set up the drums that Sal gave him in his room and that began a nightmare. David couldn't stop playing those drums. I couldn't work, I couldn't do anything." (David Cassidy, 'Could It Be Forever?', 2007. p. 20.)

Amazing. We all know how good David was, and he loved playing drums on stage, always.
But maybe not everybody knows that he played drums at school, in Rexford. A few years ago I've found a very touching memory, first published on FB in 2014. There was a pic of this school band playing for the Rexford students ; the audience sitting on a floor, very close to the band, also stting, on a low scene. Most of the boys had long hair.. and with the pic there was also the text.
Tony Harris Fried, "C.O.S. My Rexford 'high' band featuring (...) and conspicuously absent David Cassidy on drums, yes that David Cassidy! If we knew then what we know now we might made a bit more of an effort to get David in the photo, umm maybe not, actually back then he was an ok drummer and a legend in our school high. What COS lacked in virtuosity we made up for in passion and enthusiasm. A good time was had by all!!!"
