Prisoner/ David Cassidy, Sue Shifrin and John Wetton

Or, "But.. What To Write About?"

First the song, 'Prisoner'. This song is a proof that DC self titled album had bad timing, it should have been released much earlier, and basically all the songs were written around 1988, only released in 1990, of course it was not David Cassidy's fault.

It's a mainstream soft rock number, and a lot of such songs were released in the late 80s. Yes, I know we are looking through the eyes of love at everything DC ever recorded, but 'Prisoner' is not very original, nevertheless very good and interesting.

I don't know how he did it, sure his acting skills and imagination, talent whatever we call it made him so special, but it's amazing how David Cassidy could sing absolutely everything. This song released earlier and with good publicity should have been a hit. It's much better than many known hits from that era.

And how it was recorded, the sound is simply marvellous. I love it.

'What To Write About?'. It's not very important, but this story shows again how DC is pigeonholed. Forever.

My younger daughter told me this a few days ago. She works at an European agency in Warsaw, and has colleagues from different European countries. And one woman from Ireland, well after 60, asked my daughter if her parents had told her anything about their experiences when Poland was a communist country. And my daughter said yes, many stories, but she always had impression that for her mum (me) the lack of western music, albums, music magazines was the most painful. More than lack of food.

And she added, "Now my mum has a great time, because she is obsessed with David Cassidy, an actor and singer who performed in a soap opera, she has friends in the UK, fellow fans, and she has been writing a blog about him for a year or two."

I know that no one is a prophet in their own land, but really. Soap opera! And my blog a year or two! Obsessed! I had to look surprised because my daughter started to explain herself. But I wanted to know what that Irish woman said.

And at first the woman couldn't remember, but suddenly she called out, 'Oh yes, David Cassidy!! The Partridges! Yes, I remember...but..what to write about? He was just a teen idol.."

One more song written together by David Cassidy, Sue Shifrin and John Wetton.
