44 weeks of 'Cherish'
I got the old UK chart on Google alerts yesterday. From December 24, 1972. At the first glance, nothing important for us, DC fans, #1 single on that day was one of those tiring songs once you read the title you can't later get rid off it no matter how hard you try. The youngest Osmond's hit, this song was the number one hit for 5 weeks, at the end of 1972 and the beginning of 1973.. Yes, about the lover with long hair. From Liverpool. Let's watch #1s in the UK, in 1972.

What a year it was. T.Rex three #1s, and Harry Nilsson, Alice Cooper, Donny of course. David with 'How Can I Be Sure' for 2 weeks in October.
Btw on that list from 24 December 1972, Donny had a song in Top 10, and The Osmonds too. David was included only on the album chart, 'Cherish' at #10.
And because it's Christmas and I have some free time, I've also watched a new video with every UK Top 10 songs of 1972. What fun, a lot of memorable hits. 'Could It Be Forever' is at 3.54 minutes with a fragment from David's TV performance in Spain (in 1973). 'How Can I Be Sure' entered Top 10 in September.

But let's return to 'Cherish'. One of the most popular, best selling album of 1972. Recorded in October 1971, during one of the most demanding, difficult, exciting and emotional time in David's life. He played concerts every single weekend, he was working on TPF set, he appeared on Glen Campbell Hour, he recorded his first solo album, he was interviewed for 'Life' magazine (and countless others) and he was in love with Meredith Baxter. We still can hear his emotions in all of those wonderful songs.

David Cassidy's first solo album was his the most successful in his native country, peaked at #15, 23 weeks on the Billboard album chart.
And in the UK..that was the beginning of Cassidymania. The album was on the chart for 44 weeks, 10 weeks in Top 10, #2 in May 1972. And also in May, at the same time, "More than 1000 irate teenage girls staged a march on the BBC-TV Centre on May 13 demandng the return of TPF TV series and its star David Cassidy. The show was dropped by BBC last December after 13 episodes. Over 13 000 letters have already been written to the BBC further supporting the girls' cause for the show's return' (Cash Box Magazine)
In 1972 David Cassidy had one more single hit in the UK. On November 25th 'Rock Me Baby' peaked at # 11.
