'I've Got My Appetite Back For Music..

...and I'm going to release a new single, The Last Kiss. I wonder if my old fans will still remember me?', said DC in an interview called 'I'm David Cassidy...remember?', published on The Standard, on  January 4th, 1985.

'Those showbusiness people', one would like to say. Showing up and keeping up appearances. Suddenly after some years, in November 1984,  British press remembered David. But not because of his music. but because of his very trendy, posh, famous and younger friends. Most of them were his fans in the early 70s. Boy George put it the best. He said after David died in 2017. 'David Cassidy was the biggest heartthrob of the 70s. Every boy wanted to look like him. His voice was like silk.'

So in November 1984 it was the news everywhere, and a big surprise for many, that at the premiere of a new 'Wham!' album, at the most popular London's club, Xenon, at a $12.500 very lavish party, appeared someone unexpected. We can read (also in Amercian press), that at the party were. "Prince Andrew's old friend Koo Stark, (..) Limhal, Martin Kemp of Spandau Ballet, Jeffrey Daniel of Shalamar (...) Mike Monroe of Hanoi Rocks and, lo and behold, ex-Partrdge Family singer David Cassidy looking nowhere here his 34 years in skintight toreador pants (gasp!) and abbreviated vest."

This is not a great quality video (I really was struggling to take some screenshots for the website a few years ago), but this is the earliest video from 1985 we have, DC on Razzamatazz (a children's pop music program recorded in Newcastle), and the date is - February 11, 1985. Actually I'm not sure about it (the date), I think it could be earlier.

DC was a guest star, he announced the hits, and said a few words about the each song. That was really interesting.  He was also interviewed by Alistair Pirrie, a known TV radio and TV presenter, who was working for New Musical Express in the 70s and remembered DC from that time. (btw Pirrie died in January 2017).

'I'm scared to death..'. He had great friends in the UK, and we are not surprised that DC appeared at the Wham! party in November 1984. At the time he was working on his album and was living with Dick Leahy and his wife at the famous The Wick on Richmond Hill. Dick Leahy managed Bell Records in the UK when DC was a superstar there, and of course at the time he was working with Wham! He was Wham!, and later George Michael's publisher and his great ally and confidant in the music industry. I'd love to know more about his role in DC's comeback in 1985. Dick Leahy died in 2020.

But whoever helped him to make it happened, the album and its success was first of all David Cassidy's own great achievement, a lot of work, interviews, photo sessions, TV programs ; we have an impressive list on the website. One of my fav is 'Coast To Coast', aired on March 28, 1985. 'The Last Kiss' was already a hit in the UK, and David was so happy and proud. He hoped for a tour not only in the UK, but also in Europe and his native country..He had big hopes. We can also see something special, David at work, at the recording studio, and in conversation with Katy Leuty (UK fan club president)
