Stand And Be Proud / David Cassidy, Sue Shifrin
This story is not over yet, and even that people of Los Angeles know what natural disasters can be, they are devasted. Like millions all over the world watching on TV. The sheer scale of the fires and destruction are shocking.
David Cassidy and Los Angeles. He went to school here, lived and worked. Recorded music, played concerts. Performed in TV shows, guest starred on many TV programs. He knew everybody, everybody knew him. He was at the top and at the very bottom while living here.
Los Angeles in the 60s was the best place to live for someone like David Cassidy. He loved music and freedom, he was always ready for a new experience and ready to try everything. I'm not going to write a serious entry on DC in LA, it's a fascinating topic of course, but I don't know anything really about LA, I spent there just 2 days in 2019, that's nothing. I just want to write about 2 songs connected with Los Angeles and David Cassidy.
1. For What Is Worth. Written by Stephen Stills, one of the musical heros of a teenage David in the 60s. He saw Buffalo Springfield in concert performing that song. Maybe even David hmself took part or was just a witness in the curefew riots (so called hippie riots) this song was inspired by. He was 16 years old and I can't imagine him not being there. The riots took place in November 1966, on Sunset Strip, in LA. The song was recorded in December 1966, and is about young people clashing with police during the counterculture era.
There were a lot of covers of that song, and it's very nice that DC's live cover is also remembered (and not only on Wikipedia). David's live cover is truly extraordinary, for me is more exciting and powerful than the original. He also played the guitar. It was an amazing choice of a song to be played by a teen idol, for his teenage audience..

2. 'Stand And Be Proud', written by David Cassidy and Sue Shifrin.
1992 Los Angeles Riots. Unrest began on April 29 and ended on May 4th, the biggest in the U.S. in the 20th century. 83 people were killed, 2383 were injured, more than 12k were arrested, 3767 buildings were burned.
A lot of fans have never heard about DC's connection with the riot. Because he didn't tell about it much. About the song he wrote with Sue. 'Stand and Be Proud', and this song became the anthem for the Rebuild LA campaingn. It was recorded and videotaped on June 6 at the Hollywood Bowl and featured about 2000 musicians, professional and amatour. They called themselves 'The Voice Of The City'. We can see David, Sue and Beau just for a few moments at the beginning of that extraordinary video. The only place you can watch it it's The David Cassidy Official Website. I couldn't find it on YT.

Everybody worked for free and the song and the video were played at the same time on 'Good Morning America' and on 5000 radio stations across the whole country, on July 29th, with the intention to rise money to rebuild LA.
David and Sue didn't take part in that recordings and didn't do any media.
