Warm My Soul / Joerey Ortiz

A song written by a teenager, and recorded twice by David Cassidy in the early 70s.

Joerey Ortiz was a member of a very big family of Mexican and Native American origin, in entertainment for generations, and in the early 70s some of the boys from the family (also Joerey) started playing in a band called 'Silverbird'. In 1971 they released an album which probably was the first album by a Native American band to be released on a major label (Capitol).

Wes Farrell started working seriously with young Joerey, they recorded some demos, but nothing came out of this. But he wrote a really interesting song. And this song started playing in my head two days ago, when I read about David Cassidy listed for Camden Music Walk of Fame.

Let's listen to it and first of all watch this outstanding tribute video made by Sharon D'Angulot. David was sooo sexy.

I think no one expected it. Me at least. I must confess that I lost faith that we would ever succeed after I saw this place myself, in October last year. It was on a rainy Sunday morning and already there were a lot of tourists. The walk starts just outside Camden Town tube station, some people don't notice the stones on the pavement, but many stop and take pics. And those names..legends. I thought to myself there was no way we could make it with 2k signatures.

Of course, it's just the beginning, an extremely long, difficult, unknown and widing road ahead of us, or a long way to heaven..Let's watch one more video and listen to young and magical David Cassidy's voice.

But today is a moment of sheer happiness, a sense of great victory and time for celebration. Sharron Liddle has written, 'It's about time David was recognised in the music industry in the UK.' Absolutely. He deserves this stone.
