'Nice To Be Back'
Suddenly one month of 2025 has gone forever, and we have February. And February means an important anniversary. 40 years ago the single The Last Kiss/The Letter was released. In the UK and in Europe.
I've recently have written quite a lot about The Last Kiss, also on the myths surrounding this song. David Cassidy told in many interviews how he enjoyed writing songs with Alan Tarney, how it was natural and easy.
According to DC The Last Kiss was about something what happened to him. But it's not the whole truth. David wanted that the song's success was mainly due to him, and of course he wonderfully improved and made something new of 'Young Love', the song written by Alan Tarney, recorded and released by Cliff Richard in... 1981

David Cassidy's 'The Last Kiss' was different, David changed this rather ordinary dance song into something much more meanigful, emotional and dramatic, and the song very quickly became a real hit. I've checked today Official UK Charts, and according to it, The Last Kiss' first chart date was on February 23, 1985, and it peaked at # 6 on March 10. In total it spent 11 weeks on the chart.
David's hit was twice on Top Of The Pops. On February 28 the video was shown because the song premiered at # 34. On March 7 he appeared on TOTP in person. Performing live, with audience... That must have been a very special moment for David Cassidy.

He was working so hard promoting himself and his new music. He appeared on more than 20 very known TV programs in the UK itself. He also was on TV shows in Holland, Belgium, France, Italy and Germany. He had great hopes and plans including touring.
But the next single, 'Romance' was on the chart only for 7 weeks, peaked at # 54, 'Someone' in September at #86..
On The Official Website of David Cassidy we have two interesting radio interviews made at the time when there were grounds to expect it to be a real comback, not so painfully short-lived one.
Radio interview taped at the Hilton Hotel in Munich and aired on February 17

And David in conversation with Simon Bates for BBC 1. There is no date, but I think it took place in March 1985.
