Storybook Love or 'Mamá y sus incredibles hijos'

After yesterday's blog about David Cassidy in Spain, I got some additional, very interestng info from my FB friend Encarni Pérez, David's fan from Spain.

It's not the first time Encarni shared with me (and us) some priceless information and articles, or even once she wrote a letter to David for my blog. I'm so grateful for that virtual, but very real friendship, and support. Thank you Encarni. Actually she has written a new blog for us.

Encarni, "The series (TPF) began to be broadcast (in Spain) on August 5, 1971 and was titled 'Mamá y sus incredibles hijos'. The series was dubbed into Spanish in Mexico, so David had a Mexican accent. It was broadcast in the afternoons on the children's program 'Con vosotros', just when we returned from school, at snack time. It stopped being broadcast on April 23, 1973 so we were not able to see the entire series. It was broadcast on TVE 1 and was re-run on TVE 2 in 1977."

So probably Season 4 was not broadcast at all. The last episode of Season 3, 'Me And My Shadow' was first aired on March 30, 1973. Let's watch and listen to David singing the song from this episode. 'Storybook Love' written by Wes Farrell and Adam Miller.

'A fantasy world where we love one another'..Wes Farrell knew what girls were dreaming about.

Let's return to Encarni and her priceless account. "At first, the series seemed to me to be just another of the many American series starring large families, such as 'The Brady Bunch' etc. with the difference that I fell in love with David from the first minute.

I must say that I wasn't very interested in The Partridge Family's music, it wasn't a success here, apart from TV it wasn't on the charts or played on the radio. You could say that listening to the song just once isn't enough for you to like it. Now I enjoy their music much more than I did then, because I listen to it more thanks to YouTube and everything  published on the networks.

Thanks to the series great success album 'Rock Me Baby' was released, it was played a lot on the radio and I liked it more than the music of Partridge Family. I think that 'Cherish' was released later. I'm not sure, but I think I heard 'Rock Me Baby' first."

Yes, it was the same everywhere in Europe. David's solo hits were much more popular there. Even in the UK. The Partridge Family had only 3 Top 10s singles there. The most popular was 'Breaking Up Is Hard To Do', peaked at #3 on July 8, 1972. The most popular TPF's album in the UK was 'Sound Magazine', peaked at # 14 on April 14, 1972.

And one more fragment from Encarni, "As for the journalists, here (Spain) they had the idea that David was a capricious and eccentric boy, he was not treated well by the press, most of the questions were related to his fortune and what he invested his money in, there was not much talk about his professional talent, he was just a teenage idol for crazy young girls and a passing one. Nothing was published about his long musical career, his theatre performances or even that his crazy fans have continued to admire him even after he died..'

A letter Encarni wrote to David, published on my blog in November 2021. It's amazing that after many years at last we have this video, it's truly a miracle.
