The UK Tour 1985. Part 2 . The Excitement

There were a lot of articles about DC's comeback in 1985, and he appeared on many tv programmes, for national, morning, kids and music tv, he performed with pink balloons and gave an interview in a bath (and was drinking champagne),  there is a link to it for those who have  never seen it, not the best quality..but DC was amazing, one of a kind really. And that laugh..

I couldn't find many reviews from his concerts, and those which still exist concentrate mostly on the audiences' reaction, on the DC phenomenon, not on the music he performed. 

"It's Pop-Along Cassidy Again' by David Wigg "...The 70s pop idol David Cassidy has stormed back into the big time. His first British tour for 11 years has been greeted ecstatically by the fans who have never forgotten him. (..) The fans cheered, stomped and clapped and showed their admiration by handing him flowers as he sang.(..) At one point David even dared to sing while lying provocatively out-stretched on the stage - something he would never have tried back in the 70s.(..) David said: 'Before it was so frustraiting, no one could hear my singing above the continuous screaming. Now they listen to my songs, which is what I hoped for. It's wonderful to be back.'

Yes, they were listening, but a kind of hysteria  remained. Here is David on Good Morning America on October 23, the next day after the second Royal Albert Hall concert. Some very interesting footage from his tour, and a fragment of this interview.

And during that tour something happened what didn't occur even in the 70s..

"Girl Fan Knocked Out Singing Star David Cassidy!' by Karen Daniel : 'Singer David Cassidy was knocked unconscious by one of his adoring girl fans at the weekend. She got on stage, threw herself at him and sent him flying during his final song at the Apollo Theatre in Oxford. His spokeman :' Somehow the girl managed to skip through the heavy security cordon on stage and grabbed David around the neck from behind. David fell on the floor and banged his head..'

Yes, the audiences were very happy. If I have to chose one song from the Royal Albert Hall , 'Daydreamer' will be my choice, also because of DC's great sense of humor.'

Caroline Sullivan wrote about one of the London concerts : 'It was a better show than many I've seen by bands who would despise Cassidy for his perpetual cuteness. Sure, was a surprise to find that his voice has acquired a pleasingly husky resonance that nicely complemented his material, that he apparently hasn't aged a day in the past 15 years and that Cherish and ITILY evoked bleary nostalgia in yours truly..'

  I learnt yesterday that Robyn Millan died last year. Someone published a post about the TPF's episode where she'd appeared as a guest star, 'Dora, Dora, Dora', Season 2 episode 1, aired 50 years ago, on September 17, 1971. And there was a comment about that episode that the script was poorly written, sexist etc. Maybe, no one would dare write something like that now, but the world looked different half a century ago.   I was truly sorry and sad yesterday because of Robyn.
