'We Are Not Sure We've Ever Seen the Real David Cassidy'

A long title. It's a fragment of a web article published 23 years ago, actually on January 21, 2000, a review from 'a soft opening' of 'At The Copa' show, called :

 'Cassidy offers sampling of several personas in Rio show.' 

The author liked the show, 'is an amalgam of good ingredients', even if he (or she, I don't know)  thought the show wasn't very original, and tickets too expensive. We have videos on the website of the show itself, articles, and 2 very interesting adverts. One with DC and his co-star -

Yes, in spite of what David and Sheena told in many interviews, there was no chemistry, or even worse. We can find some notes about 'two duelling egos'' backstage, and some people thought that Candace Davis-Martin, one of those sexy, very professional dancers, was actually better than Sheena, and there was a great chemistry between her and David. Sometimes she replaced Sheena on stage..

There are also some videos on YT, of course not good quality, but we are so grateful that we have the opportunity to watch and listen to David. He was 50 and looked at least 10 years younger. Charismatic and..sexy. Here we can listen and watch DC singing 'That Old Black Magic' (called love of course), and like always he added something from himself, and that was incredible really. Because this is very famous song  recorded by Sammy Davis Jr or Judy Garland, and even MM sang that in 'Bus Stop'..

Amazing. The author of the article only saw David Cassidy performing in Las Vegas (I think so), in EFX, 'The Rat Pack Is Back' and 'At The Copa', and asked about the real DC : 'Is his on-stage persona just a collection of well-chosen deviratives?'. And what we are to say. We, who knows so many faces of David Cassidy..

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
