Junked Heart Blues. David's Song and Elisabeth's Cover.

The last song from the last David Cassidy's RCA album, called 'Gettin' It In The Street', recorded in February 1976, scheduled for release in November, and cruelly shelved at the last minute. I just can't imagine how hard it was for David.

So much time and work wasted, just like that. He co-produced this album with Gerry Beckley, wrote or co-wrote 7 songs, and made great cover of other 2. Wonderful album, for adults, full of passion, sadness, loneliness, anger and sarcastic humor. Music was darker and more rock than on his 2 previous RCA albums.

David's voice more mature and huskier, also because the album was recorded at the famous studios at the Caribou Ranch, in the Rocky Mountains, in Colorado. Between 1972 and 1985 the greatest artists, the who is who of the music scene worked there, including David Cassidy.

He again made amazing progress, as a producer, songwriter and first of all as a singer

David had great hopes regarding that album. It had quite a lot of publicity because David Bowie's guitarist, Mick Ronson, played with 'a former teen idol', music critics couldn't forget about David's past. In March and April David Cassidy was in Europe and appeared on some TV shows, in France and in the UK, in October he went to Canada, and there on The Wolfman Jack Show he sang two songs from his upcoming album. The title one, written with Gerry Beckley, and his own. Junked Heart Blues.

On The David Cassidy Official Website we have a video with this song with a short conversation with David at the end of it.

Amazing performance. His voice, the way he looked..He never performed this song again, we are so lucky to have this video. He recorded a slightly different version in 1979 (more instrumentally developed), and again we are lucky that it was released (without DC's consent), in 1991. I love this version too.

And after nearly 50 years, there was a brave person to face this difficult song that we all know and love so much. Her name is Elisabeth Karatzoli, a fan from Greece. She is a vocal teacher, singer and a songwriter, and she's recorded 2 songs as a tribute for David's birthday. Her cover of 'I'll Meet You Halfway' is really outstanding, because it has been done very professionally, and first of all she's had her own idea for this very known hit..

The second song recorded by Elisabeth is 'Junked Heart Blues'. First of all it's emotional to listen to this song sung not by David. Elisabeth has strong, expressive voice and she hasn't tried to sing like DC. Her version is more dramatic, and I don't know if it was meant to be like that, or it's only my impression, but while listening to Elisabeth Karatzoli, I've been thinking about those wonderful blues and jazz singers who used to sing with big bands, or just with small bands in nightclubs, in the 30s and in the 40s. It's easy to imagine Elisabeth in a glamorous evening dress and singing just for us...

22k views, I'm sure there will be more. Thank you Elisabeth.
