From 'Casablanca', David Cassidy's favourite film. Somehow this song started playing in my head yesterday while I was watching a British TV series, 'Thriller', a very old one, from the early 70s. In many episodes of 'Thriller' there were American guest stars, and in the one I saw yesterday, first aired in 1974, George Chakiris. He was very good on it and surprisingly looking much better and younger than on The Partridge Family. Less makeup I think. 

George Chakiris is a remarkable man, he was one of the dancers in Marilyn Monroe's classic number 'Diamonds Are a Best Girl's Friend' (1953), he got an Academy Award for 'West Side Story' in 1961 (and it was Shirley Jones who gave him an Oscar), he is a jewelery designer and has own brand. And he is 92 years old. 

And while watching George Chakiris in this very English crime story, I was thinking why David Cassidy never appeared on any English TV series in the 70s. Yes, I know that in 1974 he was a very tired superstar and  wanted to make movies in his native country, not TV shows in the UK. It was a different world 50 years ago. Time..As Time Goes By..

What a shame we can't be sure we have a full list of David's TV guest appearances from the 70s. From 1977 only 4. 3 in November - David and Kay took part in a TV auction ; together they were on Celebrity Challenge of the Sexes 2 ; David was on The Partridge Family/ My Three Sons Reunion ; and in December he guest starred on 90 Minutes Live. Or maybe this list is full and in 1977 he first was in mourning for his father and later enjoying his married life. And  resting. 

Kay Lenz was asked about it in one of the interviewes, 'Actually you have to realize that while David was starring on The Partridge Family he was doing three full-time jobs : acting, recording and touring. It's no wonder he felt like taking a rest. There's a lot David wants to do. The Partridge Family didn't show off his talent at all. David is a very good actor. He changed a lot and needs to do something different." (June 19, 1977) 

When on November 27, 1977 David appeared on The Partridge Family/ My Three Sons Reunion he looked sensational, not a boy any longer, but extremely handsome young man, and obviously a happy one. The marriage life suited him. And the fact that he was working again, he already started filming a two hour special episode of Police Story. It was The Partridge Family Reunion, but he sang what he wanted. His voice was deeper, richer, confident. The future looked great and he gave magical, unforgettable performance..

  I learnt yesterday that Robyn Millan died last year. Someone published a post about the TPF's episode where she'd appeared as a guest star, 'Dora, Dora, Dora', Season 2 episode 1, aired 50 years ago, on September 17, 1971..And there was a comment about that episode that the script was poorly written, sexist etc. Maybe, no one would dare write something like that now, but the world looked different half a century ago..And I really felt sad yesterday because of Robyn.
