Crazy Over You And Some Other Songs
We have some anniversaries in January. Partridge Family's single, 'It's One Of Those Nights' peaked at #20 on Billboard Hot 100 on January 22, 1972.
One of the best songs from the group catalog. Tony Romeo's masterpiece and unforgettable David Cassidy's vocal achievement. Only number 20, and just a few months before, in June 1971, 'I'll Meet You Halfway' was in Top 10.
Since September 1970 Bell Records released 5 Partridge Family albums, and one Top 10 David's single, 'Cherish'. Even for the most faithful fans buying every album or a single was a challenge, especially that most of fans were teens. Some people from the industry, already in January 1972 thought that David was on his way out, that he already passed his peak as a teen idol. Besides he had a new, younger rival, in 1972 Donny Osmond became a new sensation.

This is such a wonderful song, a real pop early 70s classic, and it's a shame that only we, David's and Partridge Family's fans remember it.
A year later, in January 1973, a cover of 'Looking Through The Eyes Of Love' became the final Top 40 Partridge Family's hit. The song was written and composed by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, it was a hit for Gene Pitney in 1965.

We are still looking at David through the eyes of love and it will never change,
But the title of today's blog is, 'Crazy Over You', great unreleased David's own song from the late 80s. And now a lot is written about unrecorded Tina Turner's song that was supposed to be on her earlier album. This is the news. Of course Tina Turner was a global superstar. But David Cassidy was once a global superstar either, and no one in the music industry cares about his unreleased music. And I agree with my FB friend Laurie Eby's opinion that - 'I think the U.S. music industry in general would prefer that anything that refers to David Cassidy is not important and act as his enormous fame didn't really exist.'
Only just yesterday I read a new article/interview with Kim Carnes for The Mirror. A lot was written about her 'stellar career as a singer and songwriter', btw 'Bette Davis Eyes' was written in 1974, and recorded by co-author of that song the same year, but it was Kim Carnes' version which became a hit in 1981. And now she's going to release one more album which is the news either.
It was very nice of Kim that during that interview she mentioned David. But I'd have prefered she'd said how underrated singer and songwriter he was, not only a global teen idol who couldn't go out anywhere, was a great guy, loved to laugh, and liked spending time at Kim and Dave Ellingson's house.

We would have never heard about 'Crazy Over You' if David hadn't played that demo on Mark and Brian in May 1989. We know it's a great song.
