"I'll Leave Myself a Little Time For Some Gladness"

From the song written by Steve Dossick. I've read today on www.whenweresinging,com, that he was a Wes Farrell's favourite, and that 'The Love Song' (also written by him and featured on The Partridge Family's episode with Mark Hamill) was recorded by Barbra Streisand. Wow. What a shame that not by David Cassidy.

Even Mark Hamill was singing. I can imagine what David Cassidy could have done with it if he'd had a chance. His young, magical voice..We believe in love songs, especially those sung by David. Always. In every word.

And there is that other song, written by Steve Dossick. From 'Up To Date' album, released in February 1971, but this particular song, 'I'll Leave Myself a Little Time' was recorded in May 1970. It's amazing how David was 'studio ready' from the start. How talented he was and how fast he was learning.

And already in June 1970 quite a lot of people knew about it. In serious music magazines from that time we can read, that it was David Cassidy who performed and was a lead singer 'with a group in the series' and 'with the real group that recorded the music', and that in 'the real group' the best session LA musicians were playing with this very talented young actor. And top pop songwriters were hired and wrote songs for him.

Of course not everyone read Billboard or CashBox, and in more popular press at first all attenton was given to Shirley Jones, she was supposed to be the main star of the show, and the lead singer of the group. There is an interview from summer 1970 where she said that she'd had no idea David could sing and that upcoming album would be called, 'Shirley Jones And The Partridge Family'. It must have been (at least at first) a bitter pill to swallow for her, that her young step-son became the lead singer.

But let's return to the song, a very special one. One of those which only looks very simple one, and easy to sing. Wonderful lyrics, I first heard this song in 2018 while watching TPF S1 E2, 'The Sound Of Money', first aired on October 2, 1970.

I loved the song from the start, and later read the lyrics carefully, to understand everything, and also because I didn't know that word, 'gladness'. It's amazing how my English has improved since I became David's fan.

The music scene from 'The Sound of Money' is not a typical one, but instead we can experience 2 minutes of perfect joy and gladness watching the Partridges and great Harry Morgan. And listening to David Cassidy's young, magical voice. Sheer bliss.
