"Long LIve The Outlaw" David Cassidy Exclusive

Actually the title of this article was "The Goodie is Dead, Long Live the Outlaw. David Cassidy exclusive by Rosalind Russell". It was published 48 years ago, on March 19, 1977, on Record Mirror, in the UK. I found this interview completely by accident, yesterday on Pinterest. It wasn't easy to read because the photo of the article was blurred, and a fragment (who knows how big) was missing. I also tried in vain to edit the pic from the article, the one you can see here. For some reasons I was very excited finding this interview.

Record Mirror was a weekly British music magazine, maybe not so popular as New Musical Express, but each week the official UK singles and albums charts, and the USA's Billboard charts were published there. And a lot of info and interviews. On the Official Website of David Cassidy we have more than 40 articles, notes or just covers (some of them truly amazing) with David Cassidy, published on Record Mirror in the 70s and 80s. The first one is from February 12, 1972,  a smiling David on the cover, with the title, 'David Cassidy : Pop Fever U.S. Style'. Obviously there was also an article or even interview inside, but we don't have them. The last one is from June 1985, it was a note about upcoming DC tour in the UK. This is the link to all Record Mirror's issues with DC, published on his website.

Of course I know we don't have everything, and it's a shame that people prefer publishing on Pinterest (at least there) or selling old mags, than sharing with the rest of us via The Official Website of David Cassidy. Some people simply don't think about it, they don't know much about the website, what is gathered there, or even sometimes they don't like the website and its webmaster, and don't want to have anything with it. It also needs some work to be done, taking a scan, sending email to Jane. I can understand, I really do. But if we, David's fans don't care about his legacy, and the website and what's there is a very important  part of it, no one else will either.

So what's in the article. Nothing sensational, but it's very touching to read an interview with DC made in such significant time of his life, several weeks after his father died in a fire, and in a tme as he put himself, "I'm on the border of falling in love now", but he didn't like to talk about Kay much. In March 1977 he still hoped for a success as a musician. Even wanted to tour again, but not in London. He said, "I have an amazing band now". Ricky Fataar, Brian Garofalo or Jay Gruska. Steven Ross. David said, "It's hard to say who will be in the band altogether, because I've been playing with the lot of other guys and I'd like all of them come and play.".

He also said how he was fed up with LA and people there, what they expected from him. The dark side of fame. And about film offers he got, and in March 1977 he still hoped for a big role in a movie. "I'm waiting for the right film to come along" He didn't want doing another TV show, even that everybody wanted to take part in  Kojak or Charlie's Angels. "I want to be an outlaw. All the parts I'm offered I'm too old or too young for them'. He also said that he was offered a part in 'Marathon Man' and some other titles, but unfortunately this part of the interview was the last and illegible.
