Happy Birthday Sam!

Actually Sam Hyman was born on May 24, 1950, but 1. some fans have just started packing to go to celebrate his 75th Birthday in California next weekend, and 2, on this day, May 11, in 1974, David Cassidy's single 'If I Didn't Care/Frozen Noses' peaked at # 9 in the UK. The last DC's Top 10 hit in the UK in the 70s. It's just a coincidence, but too good to miss. We still care for David Cassidy, and also for his friend, Sam Hyman.

This timeless hit, the lyrics and the music, was written by Jack Lawrence, and first recorded by The Ink Spots in 1939, sold over 19 million copies. Covered by The Platters, Connie Francis (and some others), and with a great success by David.

Sam Hyman. For the second time in a row, fans are going to celebrate Sam's birthday. With him. I feel so happy for those who are coming, fans not only from the US, but also from the UK and...Australia. Sam Hyman was always very important for us, wonderful friend for David since their school years, he generously shared a lot of wonderful stories with us. 

In 2012 Mark Wyckoff interviewed Sam Hyman and wrote a great article to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this wonderful friendship, so important for both of them. Sam looked older than David when they were young, but actually it was David who was born a few weeks earlier. Sam in LA, David on the other side of the country. Sam's father's name was also Jack, and he died when Sam was 19. 

Sam Hyman and David Cassidy met in 1962. This friendship was for better and for worse, for life, and to the end.

After November 2017, Sam Hyman became even more special for us. And there is no words to express our gratitude  that he remembers David, his life and legacy, with us, David's fans. I wish I could ask Sam how they celebrated their birthdays when they were teenagers. Did David remember about Sam's birthday later in life..

I wish all fans going to California a very special time. And those who can't go..we'll be waiting for pics and more wonderful stories. And please tell Sam Hyman that we all wish him the best and a Very Happy Birthday.

  I learnt yesterday that Robyn Millan died last year. Someone published a post about the TPF's episode where she'd appeared as a guest star, 'Dora, Dora, Dora', Season 2 episode 1, aired 50 years ago, on September 17, 1971..And there was a comment about that episode that the script was poorly written, sexist etc. Maybe, no one would dare write something like that now, but the world looked different half a century ago..And I really felt sad yesterday because of Robyn. First 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. The film premiered in the UK 30 years ago, on May 13, 1994.  A low budget film, made in 6 weeks, became unexpected success, all over the world, earned just mountains of money, and made of  Hugh Grant international star. It's also a film with a very strong David Cassidy's connection.  The script was written by Richard Curtis (born in 1956), whose partner (they married after many years in 2023), a popular broadcaster Emma Freud, was (and still is) a DC fan.
