'If Ever Someone..'
David Cassidy's album, 'Romance', was released exactly 40 years ago. In May 1985.
And let's start with 'Someone', the title of today's blog is the beginning of this song written by David, Alan Tarney and Sally Boyden. We stll need David, his music and his smile..

The album was released by Arista Records, but not in the US, and I think some Arista's executives must have had second thoughts about it, when the single from it, 'The Last Kiss', became a hit in Europe. Clive Davis, the Arista president..let's say didn't value DC much.
Alan Tarney, the album producer, a musician and songwriter himself, was first of all a successful producer of Cliff Richard and the Norwegian sensation of 1985, trio A-ha. And David Cassidy wanted to be successful again, and of course he needed money, he was still in debt.
There were 10 songs on the album, 7 co-written by DC and Alan Tarney. Some of them were Cliff Richard's songs rewritten with new titles (including 'The Last Kiss'). 'Romance' was a solid, mainstream album, very typical for the mid 80s. The recorded songs were very suitable for David's strong and passionate voice, and his temperament. He was singing about love all his life.

David filmed 2 videos, with 'The Last Kiss' and 'Romance'. It was an opportunity for him to show his acting skills, and once more seduce the audience. He looked sensational, slim with a new, blond fashionable haircut, and first of all he was so sexy. His sex-appeal was used again to promote his new album. He gave an interview sitting naked in the bath drinking champange, and he did a very racy photo session with the most famous model from The Sun's Page 3. He was working very hard ; in 1985 he appeared on more than 20 TV programs in the UK, and on TV shows in Holland, Belgium, France, Italy and Germany.
The single from that album, 'The Last Kiss', with George Michael's backing vocals, peaked at no 6 in the UK. 'She Knows All About Boys' was a hit in Europe too. He did everything what was possible to promote his music, but he had no support from Arista. What worse, Arista was acquired by BMG, and the whole staff was fired. The album peaked at number 20 and dropped off the charts..
Fans had to wait long five years for another David Cassidy's album. What a shame.
It must have been so sweet to perform live on Top Of The Pops at last...
