'The Unlikely Teen Idol'

This is amazing how many unknown articles Lanie Bray from Australia has found for us. For us, because all of them are on The  Official Website of David Cassidy. She also has found a lot of new pics, but the articles I'm interested the most. Sometimes there are just short notes from the early 70s informing the world what DC said about this or that, sometimes DC's concerts reviews often including short interviews with him.

I love old posters announcing his gigs, we can learn a lot from them, about ticket prices or the places he performed at and with whom, e.g I've had no idea how often DC performed at state fairs, especially in 1972, and usually at such events he played 2 gigs. Thanks to a concert advert we know that on August 20, 1971, at Indiana State Fair, he played twice, at 1.30 and 5 p.m. It's unbelievable how little information we have on DC's 1971 and 1972 concerts. Several pics, a few audios, a few short videos, that's all. In many cases a scan of an old concert advert sent by a fan or found by someone online is the only source of info we have.

So a video like this one (and audio) is truly priceless

But whatever new update appears on the website, each item adds something to our knowledge of DC, his life, career, legacy and his times.

Today we've got a short note from 1972, about DC planned meeting with fans before his MSG concert in New York. And yes, I've read once about it and that it was cancelled, but I've had no idea how serious the situation was, and that DC was flying on the airline which was getting bomb threats. We often think about the 70s with nostalgia and smile, but of course it was a decade with many own problems, terrorism was one of them.

Another article is from 2018, written by an English professor of social history, who also wrote a book called, 'Heartthtrobs : A History of Women and Desire'. An especially beautiful pic of DC accompanies the article, he really looks like a pretty girl on it. The article is unfortunately very typical, of course David was called a former teen idol to the rest of his days, but t's not true that his life consisted only of unexpected stardom in the early 70s, and later depression. And that nothing good happened to him after 1974. And yes he was very pretty and safe but there were other reasons he became a teen idol and why we still miss him.
