'I Hate To Get Categorised'
Recently Jane's published the article from October 06, 1973, the final part of a Jackie Special on David Cassidy in Europe. Before arriving to the UK (that was the last part of his European 1973 tour) he gave that interview (sorry I can't find the name of the journalist). We can read in it that David was already homesick, missed his home in Encino, his three dogs and his four cats. That he was waiting impatiently for leaving the TV show after the last season.
David Cassidy's interviews from the 70s are really extraordinary, they are so sincere and mature, He wanted the fans to know him, not his image. I've found this interview very interesting and touching.
Let's listen to one of the first songs written by David Cassidy (with a little help from his producer). From the second Partridge Family's album, 'Up To Date', released in February 1971.

He was asked about the TV show, what his feelings were about it. David said that producers used a lot of things from his personal life in the scripts, for example one of his step-brothers (no names) did exactly the same what his TV brother did, sold his socks and shoes! He was asked about his plans, (poor DC was often asked this question), of course in March 1973 he was still so young and so talented, all doors were still opened for him..
About his songwriting and what he liked to sing, "I don't push myself to write. I wouldn't say I'm a songwriter. I have written a few songs, but I'm basically a singer. I'm not a disciplined writer at all, it all depends on where I am, how I'm feeling. I can't go in and sit down at the piano and pop out four or five hit tunes. I like to change all the time. I like to sing ballads, if it's good rock'n'roll I like to rock'n'roll. The same with blues". Oh yes, he could sing everything and the same can be said about his songwriting. I think DC was too modest. 'Ricky's Tune' wasn't worse than any song written by professionals for his first hit solo album.

It's so moving to read this fragment, "I hate to get categorised. I'd like to think there are a lot of different sides to me to show. (..) I have to follow my heart and what is good for me. I could really use guidance but I have to trust that guidance and that's what I'm lookng for.."
He always stayed true to himself.
