50 Years Of 'The Higher They Climb The Harder They Fall'

The first David Cassidy's album for RCA, 'The Higher They Climb The Harder They Fall' was released in July 1975. In Summer of 1975 David spend a few weeks in Europe, promoting his new music.

In London, in June, he appeared on some TV programs, there were press and radio interviews. It's a shame, but there is only a list of them, not actual radio recordings. So we only know that he was nterviewed by Tony Blackburn for BBC, by Michael Aspel for Capital Radio, and Peter Powell for Radio Luxembourg. Btw in 1975 David gave a lot of radio interviews in the US, when he personally visited many radio stations promoting his album. We have only ONE audio, and sadly not of good quality, truly speaking difficult to understand, and I wonder if it could be improved.

David interviewed by Brad Davis on Radio KUHF in Houston in May 1975.

While in London, on June 21st, David was in audience at legendary Midsumer Music festival at Wembley Stadium, that included Elton John and his guests, the Beach Boys, the Eagles, Joe Walsh, Rufus with Chaka Khan. I saw once 2 pics of David arriving for that gig, and even that it was a VIP section he was surrounded by 2 strong security men. He still couldn't go anywhere without security in London, fans were waiting for him for many hours outisde TV studios or radio stations he was rumored to be.

That concert is so legendary that even a 1975 TV commercial for it has more than 30k views.

In July David was in Holland, Germany, France and Spain. Not everything went well, especially in Spain where DC was to meet journalists and music critics in Benidorm, near Alicante, where at the time a big music festival was taking place. Davd stopped for a meal and was angry when photographers who followed him wanted to take some pics. DC was late for a press conference and Spanish press boycotted him, no pics were taken, no questions asked.

Just a handful of the most faithful fans were waiting for him at the airport in Amsterdam. He recorded 2 clips at TopPop studio, but they were never aired.

In September 1975, the album topped Bravo charts in Germany and David became the Male Vocalist of the Year. In the UK it peaked at number 22. At the time the album got mixed reviews, but with some exceptions mostly good. David's vocals were praised along with hs courage, determination and sense of humor.

'The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall' is a proof of David Cassidy's great talent, he was not only  a wonderful singer but also an original and unique, sensitve artist with his own recognizable style. His album hasn't aged at all, and I'm so happy I have my own vinyl copy and listen to it very often.
