Sharron Liddle. An Unforgettable Journey To West Orange
With a great pleasure I post today the first wonderful and moving West Orange Story. Written by Sharron Liddle, who came for David from the UK. Thank you Sharron.
When I first heard about the tribute event for David Cassidy in his hometown of West Orange, New Jersey, I was immediately moved. The idea of a global gathering to celebrate his life and legacy felt incredibly special. My heart leaped at the thought of being part of it, but my head quickly started calculating. Traveling from the UK, especially with my husband having just retired and our recent business sale, felt like a huge financial undertaking. I tried to be pragmatic. I told myself it didn't matter if I couldn't be there in person. I'd simply follow along online, soaking up all the photos and videos shared by the fans. I'd still be a part of it, just from a distance. But a tiny, hopeful part of me held on to the dream.
Fast forward to our first night in West Orange. We arrived at the hotel, and it was everythng I'd imagined. As we walked in, I heard a sound that made my heart swell : laughter. It was coming from the hearth room, a beautiful chorus of joy and camaraderie. When I peeked inside, I was stunned. So many incredible people, all connected by their love for David. We were welcomed with open arms, and the love in that room was palpable - it was the first thing that hit me.
Over the next three days, that feeling only grew stronger. While I could talk about the specific events, the meetings, and the special moment when Beau and Katie arrived at Colgate Field, to me, it was the laughter, friendship and love that filled every moment. The event didn't just meet my expectations, it surpassed them. I left West Orange with a heart full of memories and a renewed sense of connection. The love and friendship I experienced there have left a permanent, beautiful mark on my soul, forever etched in my heart.
To remember and honour David in West Orange, the GB group has reached out to 'Alzheimer's West Orange' to create a lasting legacy tribute fund to commemorate that special event. David was a great supporter of Alzheimer's disease research, and we feel this would be a suitable, lasting tribute to his memory. Your support will help continue David's legacy in a meaningful way. Thank you, Weronika, for allowing me to share. And thank you to Karen and Barb who made a UK fan girl's dreams come true (and of course my husband Ken). I'd love to hear how others felt about the event and how it touched their hearts. Together, we can keep David's memory alive, creating a legacy of love and support for future.
All my love
