A Timeless Classic

'Cherish', the first David Cassidy's solo album is a timeless classic, and should be regarded as the 70s pop masterpiece, known by everybody and played everywhere,

This video has 3,2 million views. Should have been at least 30. So many comments, fans or people who remembered David from the 70s. Gratitude, love, admiration for his talent, regret that he was not appreciated as he should have been,  that he left us too soon, and that so many still miss him and remember with love,

Someone wrote, " His voice is instantly recognizable and his delivery is superb"

David Cassidy was a unique singer, not only because he had a fabulous voice, his own style which was influenced by his acting education and his parents' background, everything what his father taught him. From the start David Cassidy was very aware of what he was doing in the recording studio and why. A lot of people noticed his professionalism. Wes Farrell said in November 1970, "David's level of enthusiasm about the music is like atomic bomb explosion. He knows a lot about music. He's not like some people who have just be thrown into music overnight."

He knew how to approach new material, who were the song creators, if it was a cover he knew other versions of the songs he was to record. He always thought about what the lyrics meant for him, He was deadly serious about his work. The meaning and the quality of it. That's why so many of his songs are timeless, universal and also very sincere and personal. Like this one, we can feel and understand his pain.

David Cassidy's first solo album, 'Cherish', was recorded in October 1971 with the same musicians, arrangers and the same producer as Partridge Family's album. But it was different, more mature and soulful. Tony Romeo wrote 3 songs for David, including very personal and meaningful 'I Am a Clown'. There were 3 songs written by Adam Miller. A great pop hit, 'Could It Be Forever" written by Wes Farrell and Danny Janssen.

It was a wonderful, first solo album, and David  had grounds to believe that each next one would be better, more 'his', and even more popular. The single 'Cherish' was released in October 1971 while the album was still in production. It became number 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart in December 1971, and on December 25th it peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 9. It was the only ever David's Top 10 Hit in his native country. It was sold more than 1 million copies in the US alone.

Of course I have written many times about 'Cherish' in all possible ways and about each of the songs individually. So why today..It's worth writing about this wonderful album once more, especially at this time of the year, but there is also a personal reason. The last 2 months were difficult for me, with serious health problems, everything is fine now. I couldn't concentrate on reading or watching anything, but I was listening, and David voice helped me get through those difficult days and nights. Billy and Blaze. Elliot Mintz' tapes. Rado interviews. Louise Poynton's podcast. And 'Cherish'. I also listened to his other songs, but somehow always came back to 'Cherish', the David Cassidy's first album. His timeless classic.
