David Cassidy In 'Bravo'. And Frances.

I have written many times about David Cassidy's popularity in Germany in the 70s, and the importance of 'Bravo' magazine in Europe. 'Bravo' was forbidden behind the Iron Curtain, also in my country, Poland, but it only increased our curiosity and prices of this weekly magazine on the black market.

You can't imagine how it was popular in the 70s. First of all because of sex, in each issue there was exciting photo story about first teenage sexual experiences, and a lot of articles with wonderful pics about teen idols, popular singers and actors. And we, teens in communist countries could listen to some Western music on the radio, but we had no idea how our fav artists looked like. And it was in 'Bravo', brought to school by a lucky owner, where I saw David Cassidy's pic for the first time and it stopped me in my tracks, and to this day, half a century later, I remember what I felt looking at his face..

David Cassidy was extremely popular in Germany. Voted the best male vocalist of the year, his songs and albums hit number 1s on Bravo charts. In 1974 'Bravo' readers were asked to write to David, and 35 000 letters were written and delivered to David's house in LA. There were posters and  his pics on covers.

Thanks to Marjon Hoogendam-Landmeter and Lanie Bray, all the time, I think since 2024, new articles from 'Bravo' (with translation) have been published on The Official Website of David Cassidy. So far we have 102 items (articles, posters and charts) on David Cassidy published in 'Bravo' in the 70s, and the 80s. There's everything you can imagine in those articles! Including some racy stories of German girls who got to know David a little bit better..

I'm sure he must have appeared on German TV much more often than we realize. We know only about two German TV programs, is it possible? Only two? He was so popular, had so many fans. Btw we know from another German mag, published on July 2, 1974,  that  DC sang one more song on Musikladaen, not just 'Rock Me Baby'. According to the article, DC changed his clothes into glitter-studded tuxedo' and sang 'How Can I Be Sure'.

Interesting, but 'How Can I Be Sure' in 1974? I would have thought that if it's true  'If I Didn't Care' was more likely, as at the time it was his new single.

A lot of articles and interviews with David was written by Frances Schoenberger. And I think it's worth to know something more about her. She wrote about David because it was her job, she covered the entertainment industry for Germany since she arrived to NYC in 1969. Her first job was reporting on Woodstock. While writing for 'Bravo' she was travelling all over the States. She spend a day with John Lennon in New York. Kiss took her on their Japan tour. Later she was correspondent for the most prestigous German magazines.

In the 70s she wrote a lot about David, visited him at his home, accompanied him on his World Tour from start to finish. I think they became friends, and David trusted her. We can see David and Frances on this poignant video. David going by train from London to Manchester for his last concert in the 70s. He looked so sad and tired.
