'Don't Be Sad For Me..'

'Don't ask why or how..' from 'Tonight', a song from EFX. I just love listening to it with my headphones on. David's voice, so wonderful, so deep and emotional. How he did it, that each song he performed seems to be about him, so personal, or even more, about him and a listener. I don't know who wrote 'Tonight' and who was singing with David. Somehow it's not mportant.

He could make every song his own, only the greatest artist can do this. He was also a perfectionist, how it's all refined, thought out, every phrase, note, word. He seems to sing so effortlessly, of course he was very talented, but there was also a lot of hard work. Jack taught him, work ethic. Practising for hours if necessary, until everything was at the highest possible level.

Of course David Cassidy wasn't the only one who combined a career as an actor, singer or even a teen idol, with successes in musical theater or Las Vegas. Donny Osmond or David Essex come to mind.  In David's case already in the early 70s there were critcs who pointed out the theatrical style of his singing, and that he could make a great career in Las Vegas.

"Don't be sad for me'. I have chosen this fragment as the title for today's entry about the 5th anniversary of my blog. It's truly amazing, when I started, in December 2020, I thought that I was going to write maybe for a month or two. Louise Poynton gave me advice to have some entries ready in advance, I had the first 5, but later I just wrote what I wanted. There was always something to write about. David's songs, his acting, his career, his personal life or charity work. Anniversaries. New articles or even books about DC. New videos or even recordings. How fans honor David Cassidy's memory, his legacy. David Cassidy Las Vegas Star. Historical Marker for David Cassidy in West Orange. David's fan clubs. FB groups. David Cassidy in popular culture. I published some short stories, not only mine. Fans wrote for my blog about their memories of meeting David or seeing him in concert. And many other topics. After all this is the entry number 998.

I published my book on David Cassidy. And Chapter 1 is the most popular entry on my blog. Nearly 3k views.

'Don't be sad for me..' We cherish David's legacy but we are also still sad, 8 years haven't changed that. We are sad when we have to say goodbye, to mourn fellow fans and people who knew David, were friends wth him or worked with him. This week was so difficult. First I learnt, and it was really shock, about Rose Cortez passing, a fellow fan from San Antonio. Someone known and very liked in our small world of David's fans. I'm truly sorry and sad.

And later Rob Reiner and Anthony Geary died on the same day. The world says goodbye to Rob Rainer, a magical storyteller and wonderful filmmaker, a great comic actor, someone who will be really missed.  We, fans, say goodbye to Rob Rainer, a man called Snake and good David's friend.  Anthony Geary, an actor known and loved for his iconic role in a TV series. Anthony Geary, for us Greg Hauser, a man Laurie Partridge wanted to marry.
