The Things We Do For Love

Yes, it's the title of the old 10cc hit (Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman), btw I'm a huge fan of Eric so I know the song is about hard times he had while dating a girl from Yorkshire, her dad was rather sceptical about that young popular guitarist and singer so much in love, but he shouldn't. Eric married his Angela in 1965, and they are still together. Btw 'I'm Not In Love' was also written for her. But this is a blog about David Cassidy, so let's start with David's song, and he, like no other, could sing about love, its joy and pain.

The things we do for love. We talked quite a lot about it while in London last month. After all we -  me, Maya and Linda, met for the second time this year. And for Maya it was the third journey she did for David Cassidy in 2025. Like other fans we have spent a lot of money and a lot of time travelling just because of him. To walk in his steps, to celebrate his life and legacy and to meet with friends. As Maya beautifully put it, 'to be amongst like minded people, to experience magic walking in his steps with all of you.'

So we talked a lot why we still care for DC so much. And of course there is a very simple anwer to it. Because we want it. We want to feel that love and excitement. When we were very young he was our first dream boy, and now he is our last. And it doesn't matter that he's no longer here. He was a teenage dream once, now we are middle aged, we experienced a lot and life made us rather tough, but with David..when we meet because of him we behave like teens again, bold and ready for adventure, for an excitement and good fun. Everything is so meaningful and there are no obstacles, only new possibilites.

We'll break down any door and reach important people if necessary. Like Barb and Karen and other fans did  when for two years they were prepearing David Cassidy West Orange event. Behind the Last Vegas Star, every bench or every plaque there are fans ready to sacrifice a lot, their time and money, to keep David Cassidy's legacy alive.

We didn't do any spectacular things in London, but going to Clapham (me, Maya, Linda and Valere), in search for the house where The Last Kiss was filmed, was an adventure. Or  going to the casino in the center of London's West End, it was once a cinema, and David was there with Kay for her film premiere, in March 1977. Such a wonderful and impressive building, I would have never gone inside on my own, but there were three of us, so we spent there 2 magical hours. Inside, the original decorative interior has been retained. It's a Grade II listed building, and one of the most beautiful London's building I've ever seen. And first of all everything looks like in 1977 when David was there, and it was the most important.

And one other thing. I'm a former teacher and librarian and what's more I once worked at the largest and the best Warsaw's bookstore, I'm middle aged etc.. but while at Foyles bookstore I did something for which I should feel ashamed but I wasn't. I'm a fan and I had to know what Petula Clark has written about David. It wasn't after all so very interesting but I took some screenshots  from her autobiography for Maya and Linda and of course got caught. I apologized and pretended to be ashamed..the things we do for love..
