Could It Be Forever / Wes Farrell, Danny Janssen

This song should have been known by everyone and everywhere. From the start, from the very first notes, so distinctive..

In March 1973 when David performed 'Could It Be Forever' on Estelar Del Sabado, in Spain, he was careless with the lyrics and deliberately left out famous 'but', at the time he was fighting for his artistic independence, and was not on speaking terms with Wes Farrell.

It's Wes Farrell's and David Cassidy's masterpiece. The great pop timeless classic.

Wes Donald Farrell died 30 years ago, in February 1996,  he was only 56 years old. So important figure in music industry for about 10 years, in the 60s and 70s. He co-wrote 'Hang On Sloopy', recorded in 1965, from the start a favourite song for countless of garage bands, and sure young David Cassidy, a drummer in his high school band, played this great hit many times. He also co-wrote 'Boys' recorded by The Beatles.

In 1968 Wes Farrell produced The Cowsills, and Tony Romeo wrote 3 songs for them. 'Indian Lake' written by Tony, and produced by Wes, reached # 10 on Billboard Hot 100, and sold more than 1 million copies.

When Wes was hired by Screen Gems and Bell Records, he was 30 and very experienced and successful producer and songwriter. He knew what he wanted to achieve, what was expected from him and why he was hired. He was to repeat The Monkees' success. He was very sure of himself, he was the boss, and he knew how to make a big pop hit. For him, in 1970, David was just a talented kid, a hired young actor, he could have been a singer (if he was good enough), but not a partner.

The story of this collaboration, David's struggle to be treated as a serious musician and a songwriter, an independent recording artist, is truly fascinating. Wes had a strong personality, but we can say the same about David. What Wes really thought about the songs written by young David Cassidy? Some of those early songs were rejected as not good enough, some were recorded for Partridge Family or on solo David's albums produced by Wes. Some were changed by Wes, and his name was added as a co-writer.

And PLEASE DONATE. We've managed to gather 50% of the sum, which is great, but only 170 David's fans contributed to this amount. He had millions of fans in the UK, in the 70s..
