I'll Be Your Magician / Irwin Levine, L.Russell Brown

First a song that for some time has not wanted to leave me.

'I'll Be Your Magician'. Difficult to believe but today I've listened to David Cassidy singing it for the first time in my life. I mean, I read about it, I even watched Danny Bonaduce once 'performing' it on a TV program in 1973. but I never heard David's version.

But that's what friends are for, my fellow fans. Scotti wrote about it, and Linda published the link for me. Actually this video appeared on You Tube 3 years ago.

In the style of the 60s, reminds a bit The Kinks' classic, 'Sunday Afternoon'. I checked it in Johnny Ray Miller's book, and 'I'll Be Your Magician' was a demo for use in Season 2. That version (and some other songs, but not by David) was on a vinyl pressing released by Screen Gem. It was meant for artists from other labels to licencing and recording the songs. But no one was interested, and at last poor Danny had to record it, or better say "it landed on Danny's Bonaduce's solo album" (Johnny Ray Miller, 'When We're Singin", 2016, p. 403)

L. Russell Brown said that he had a fascination with magicians and that he wrote several magician songs. Danny's version was a song about a boy who was ready to use magic to make a girl love him.  David's version supposedly about the same, but not quite. (If I can put it this way).

And one more Irvin Lewine and L.Russell Brown's song which had no luck. 'I Was Running The Opposite Way', meant to be 1. On 'Cherish', 2. Recorded for Season 4, meant for 'Bulletin Board'. Even L, Russell Brown forgot it ! Lost and forgotten forever. Actually I like it very much.
