I Write The Songs (Again). And Some Anniversaries
There are not many important dates regarding David in June, especially compared to May, but it's worth writing about these few. Let's start with a song.
The Partridge Family had three Top 10 hits in the US during its short career. "I Think I Love You', #1, 'Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted', #6, and on June 12, 1971 "I'll Meet You Halfway' peaked on Billboard Hot 100 at #9.
Written by Wes Farrell and Gerry Goffin, first released on Up To Date, the second group's studio album, in February 1971. A very special song, one of the most loved by fans, David performed it in 1971 and 1972, in Australia in 1974. Returned to it in 1991. Also on 'This Could Be The Nigh Tour, in the UK, in November 2008.
We can hear David Cassidy and his band singing it at the beginning of 'The Last Session' doc, aired for the first time on June 11, 2018. How we, fans, argued about this doc. And now, after 8 years, this is still the only film about David Cassidy's phenomenon released after 2017.
But let's listen to the first recording of this song, the version altered by John Gomolka. I love listening to it with my headphones on. Amazing sound.
On June 8th, 1985, David's 'Romance' album peaked at # 20 in the UK. I've checked that chart. Bryan Ferry at the top, Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Rea, Paul Young, but also several dance compilations by various artists. Bryan Adams at 21. So not bad, but I think it wasn't the return David wanted. His album dropped off the chart very quicky
David Cassidy personally did everything possible to promote his music, but he had no support from Arista Records. What was worse, Arista was acquired by BMG which fired the whole staff. That was the end of 'Romance' in the UK.

June for me is Tony Romeo's month. He died on June 23, 1995. 16 his songs were recorded by Partridge Family, 5 was written for David Cassidy's solo albums. It's very warm today and I feel the sunlight on my face..

And 'I Write The Songs', of course on the charts in July, not in June, but few days ago, I read long interview with Barry Manilow for Las Vegas Sun (it was also on Los Angeles Times). He had a lung cancer surgery, luckily the tumor was found in early stage, so probably chemo will not be needed. He is 83, has problems with voice, but he is planning to record a new album and play concerts. He is a legend and has fans all over the world, yes, I know, but I can't help it how hard is always reading about the most famous Barry's song. I Write The Songs. And this time it was even worse because Bruce Johnston was cited, he said about Barry's version of his song, "is the only one I care about, honestly. He really grabbed it - he's just as real as he could be."...Really...
