Ain't No Sunshine / Bill Withers

Image
There are two reasons for writing about it today. 1. No sunshine here at all, the worst kind of winter. Now it's not so cold, but very cloudy, strong wind, raining and when it's not raining it's snowing..Dark at 4 pm..2. Someone's asked me recently why I write only about young DC?? Of course I write not only about the 70s or 80s..but..So today I will write about a song from 'Then And Now', the US release - April 30, 2002, 52 year old David Cassidy. First the  original, sung by the author Bill Withers. A great live version..with a very happy drummer. I love those comments, why he was smiling all the time..? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CICIOJqEb5c I've had no idea how amazing man Bill Withers was. Born in 1938, he died in 2020. In the 70s I loved 'Lovely Day'..another his timeless classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s6VbOEnsgk He was born with a stutter,  in a small town, one of 6 kids, his father was a miner who divorced his mother when Bill...

Fantasy Island

Image
David Cassidy : 'Between 1970 and 1974 I had made about $8 million - virtually all of which was gone by 1980. (..) By 1980 my net worth was less than $100 000. That for me was dead broke. More than that my career was in a toilet. I had trouble getting anyone at my agency, which had been handling me since the early 70s, even return my phone calls. If you are not a big moneymaker anymore, it's as if they don't want to know you, and no one in Hollywood seemed eager to hire David Cassidy any longer' (David Cassidy, 'C'mon, Get Happy..1994) On January 12, 1980 David Cassidy appeared as Danny Collier on 'Fantasy Island', #3. 15.. Fantasy Island (1977-1984), the mysterious Mr Roarke runs an unique resort island in the Pacific Ocean that can fulfill any fantasy, but they rarely turn out as expected. What can I say, this episode with DC was awful every way, the script, other actors... except there is  an interesting comment below that video which explains everyth...

The Partridge Family Album

Image
Billboard 200 on January 2, 1971. Number 1, George Harrison 'All Things Must Pass', number 4 - The Partridge Family Album. The same day Billboard Hot 100 - number 1, George Harrison again - 'My Sweet Lord', number 6 - I Think I Love You (13 weeks on charts).  So from that first, the most succesful TPF's album - 'Singing My Song / Wes Farrell, Diane Hilderbrand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH1T7_WgqGA 'um ba de dumba..' but also 'singin' my song and they're sigin' along..' so true, and 'for the love is strong and it can't go wrong..' The love is still strong and we are singing with David after all those years.. The album was recorded on May 11, 1970 (ITILY and Somebody Wants To Love You), May 16, June 11, August 4 and August 5. Released in ..I think it was the end of September of 1970, but I've read many times it was October. Anyway, that album was on Billboard 200 for 68 weeks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R36yMzU...

David Cassidy on The FBI

Image
The FBI episode called 'Fatal Impostor' (#5.17) was aired on January 4th 1970 on ABC. It was one of the David Cassidy's seven tv appearances in 1970. The last one of his pre TPF's role was in Mod Squad, and that episode  was aired on April 7th. Later for 4 years he played  Keith Douglas Partridge and a superstar known as David Cassidy...  The F.B.I. was a very popular tv series (1965-1974) , consisting of 9 seasons and 241 episodes. It looks like all actors in Hollywood played in it. Including Harrison Ford as a convicted murderer in that same season as DC. The first seasons were realistic and showed more violence. I've read that every detail of every episode of the series was carefully vetted by FBI second-in-command Clyde Tolson.  The premiere episode called 'The Monster' was about a handsome serial killer who strangled women with their own hair, and it  shocked Clyde Tolson so much that he recommended the show to be cancelled. J. Edgar Hoover tried at lea...

'Have You Got 'David' For My Grandma?'

Image
I didn't have even a smallest DC pic in the 70. Or a teen mag, a poster or any of his records. Nothing. And it was like that to 2018 when I made friends with some wonderful English ladies, DC fans since the 70s. We talked a lot about David, how it was to be his fans in the UK, they saw him in concerts in Manchester and in London in 1973 and again in London in 1974 and in the 80s, also in the theatre. They started sending me amazing presents. A beautiful framed DC pic, an original giant poster, a pictorial souvenir of DC's UK tour in 1973, David Cassidy's and  The Partridge Family's annuals, TPF's comic books and nearly all copies of The Official David Cassidy Magazines. It was very moving and I just can't describe my feelings. Seeing those old mags.. they were in such good condition like they were printed not nearly half a century ago, but just a few years back.. I must confess that not  all our conversations were very serious, on the contrary, and we've d...

January / David Paton

Image
It can be only one song today. First the original.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdcrTUcdO0Q Sweet..David Paton had a sweet smile . And sweet voice. A former Bay City Roller for a while. I have absolutely nothing against him. He was  born in Edinburgh in October 1949, after the  Pilot's years he worked for Alan Parsons Project , Kate Bush and Elton John and Fish. 'January' was written by him and produced by Alan Parsons. And in February 1975 that song  was number 1 on the UK chart, for 3 weeks.  It was a hit also in Poland, but I personally always  prefered Magic.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzlK0OGpIRs 'Music in my head..' yes, very the 70s kind of pop song, still so exciting. But Pilot's January wasn't exciting at all. And there are some videos where David Paton explains that 'January' is a song about a girl, not a month.. David Cassidy's version from 'Home Is Where The Heart Is', his second RCA album released in 1976..this is n...

Let Him Shine..

'Thank you. For all of it. For all the decades. I don't think I do. I know I love you '  . David Cassidy, March4, 2017 We too..We know, and we knew this from the start. So difficult to explain to strangers, not fans. 'Why do you write about David Cassidy? He was just a pretty boy, a singer, famous only for a while. A teen idol..Why?'. Sometimes I say - 'It's just a hobby. People have strangest hobbies than mine'. But this is not just a hobby. Why we still care..because we do. With each year there are less David's fans, for many different reasons, but there are still quite a lot of us all over the world. Of course it's also a generation thing. David was our own idol and we were teens in the 70s. We aged with him. Some of us became wives, husbands, parents, grandparents, widowers or divorcees..We've faced all those problems which life brings, no matter if you are poor, rich, beautiful or ugly, a librarian or a teen idol.. old age will get eve...
