'We Really Brought Him Home'

Image
I'm waiting for my plane to Zurich at the Kennedy Airport and thinking about those 10 days spent in the US. In New York City, West Orange and Saratoga Springs.  Such an emotional time, so meaningful, remembering it is like watching a long, exciting and very moving film, the kind where every scene and every conversation is important.  Someone said, 'We really brought him home'. So true. I feel that Barb and her wonderful team, the Mayor of West Orange, Katie and Beau, Henry Diltz, David's cousins, and every single participant, every single fan (and I mean also those who couldn't attend but were with us in spirit), like we all at last brought David Cassidy home. I have David's autobiography in my phone, and it was amazing experience visiting those places and reading about them in his book. Nothing really has changed. His Eagle Rock school is exactly at the same place, it is the same building he was going to, and across the street the Catholic elementary school whe...

West Orange Stories

Image
First the song we associate most with West Orange and David too. Written by friends, Kim Carnes, Dave Ellingson and David Cassidy. DC wrote about it in his book, "Kim, Dave and I wrote a couple of songs together. (..) At the time I wrote it, I was remembering when I was 18. It was 1968. I had just moved back to New York from L.A. I was on a bus from Port Authority to West Orange, New Jersey. I remember leaning against the window and looking out and remembering how many times my mom had driven me the same way. I hadn't lived there since I was 11. I saw a couple of guys I'd known who were now married." (David Cassidy, ' Could It Be Forever? , 2007, p.273) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4gvxt1WgaA And now we are going there. To West Orange. There is a page on my blog called, 'Las Vegas Stories', with entries written by fans who were in Las Vegas in April 2022. Fans from the the US, the Netherlands, Canada and England. Wonderful stories with great pics, many...

'Tell me you love me, make me real'

Image
From the song we all love, written for David Cassidy by Tony Romeo. 54 years ago. David Cassidy, "I called Tony Romeo when I was looking for songs and he wrote 'I Am a Clown'. Tony knew me well and saw what I was going through and put it into music. It describes the circus that my life had become, with me as the clown" (David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever?, 2007, p.217)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep42l7CacCY&t=5s A masterclass in seducing an audience. He was so aware of every gesture, it's just amazing. I've thought about that paricular fragment of 'I Am a Clown''s lyrics while searching for the best title for an entry about the upcoming The David Cassidy Event in West Orange. Next Friday I'll be on a plane to New York City. We are going there not sparing time, health or money, to tell the whole world that we still love him and the passing years change nothing. The fact that a historical marker for David Cassidy will be placed in Col...

'The City Boy From Manhattan'

Image
Someone's collection of David Cassidy's pics on Pinterest is called that. And it's stuck in my head, probably because I'm very soon going to New York City myself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-4Zt6XnrY8 Only 902 views after 3 years. Does it mean fans don't like this outstanding song penned by David all by himself? I wish we had a tribute video with this song and photos of him in New York, or with places connected wth him there. Since I've decided to go to West Orange and take part in the celebrations (it was in January) it happened I called out a few times, "But I'm going to New York!!!". It was during conversations with 1. my dentist (about very costly and unavoidable dental procedure). 2. my mechanic (after he told me how much I have to pay for the repair of my car after martens chewed through what they could. 3. two paramedics in the ambulance when they wanted to take me to hospital. And there were other very unpleasant (and costly) surprise...

50 Years Of 'The Higher They Climb The Harder They Fall'

Image
The first David Cassidy's album for RCA, 'The Higher They Climb The Harder They Fall' was released in July 1975. In Summer of 1975 David spend a few weeks in Europe, promoting his new music.  In London, in June, he appeared on some TV programs, there were press and radio interviews. It's a shame, but there is only a list of them, not actual radio recordings. So we only know that he was nterviewed by Tony Blackburn for BBC, by Michael Aspel for Capital Radio, and Peter Powell for Radio Luxembourg. Btw in 1975 David gave a lot of radio interviews in the US, when he personally visited many radio stations promoting his album. We have only ONE audio, and sadly not of good quality, truly speaking difficult to understand, and I wonder if it could be improved.  David interviewed by Brad Davis on Radio KUHF in Houston in May 1975. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/Radio1975May8_Houston.mp3 While in London, on June 21st, David was in audience at legendary Midsumer ...

David Cassidy In 'The History Of Rock'n'Roll On Television'

Image
The full title of this book is 'Station To Station. The History Of Rock & Roll On Television', written by Marc Weingarten,  (a free lance journalist and filmaker from LA), published in 2000. And Jane has posted  recently some books (fragments regarding DC), and all of them are very interesting to read and very valuable additions to The Official Website of David Cassidy. I'd love to read entire Marc Weigarten's book, he really knows what he is writing about, his knowledge of the music industry,  the history of television and pop culture is incredible. He must have done a lot of research, he provides a lot of facts and rather no errors as is often the case in such publications. It's wonderfully written, the author has strong views on TV shows and people who created them,  and he is not afraid to share his opinions with readers. Just two fragments, "Farrell was a street-smart hustle with an unerring capacity to gauge pop market trends and capitalize on them ...

'I Hate To Get Categorised'

Recently Jane's published the article from  October 06, 1973,  the final part of a Jackie Special on David Cassidy in Europe. Before arriving to the UK (that was the last part of his European 1973 tour) he gave that interview (sorry I can't find the name of the journalist). We can read in it that David was already homesick, missed his home in Encino, his three dogs and his four cats. That he was waiting impatiently for leaving the TV show after the last season.  David Cassidy's interviews from the 70s are really extraordinary, they are so sincere and mature, He wanted the fans to know him, not his image. I've found this interview very interesting and touching. Let's listen to one of the first songs written by David Cassidy (with a little help from his producer). From the second Partridge Family's album, 'Up To Date', released in February 1971. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krJCpPzBEOg He was asked about the TV show, what his feelings were about it.  Da...
