I've wanted to write about something else. Not about young David's beauty.  Actually about the Music Walk Of Fame in Camden Town, in London. I've talked about it with Pauline Tombs, and she's sent me a lot of info. I've listened to the last show some time ago and it was a wonderful, emotional experience. But when it was announced I wasn't very happy because I knew I would be very busy, all that week, and especially on the January 30. But..you never know..what the future has for you. It's truly a cult band, the brothers started playing punk in the late 70s ( being 11 and 15 years old).. they influenced many, but never achieved a great mainstream success. Gary Contessa on The David Cassidy Connections, in conversation with Louise Poynton. A very long conversation, nearly 2 hours, but it was fascinating, and I can only repeat after Louise that I've enjoyed every single minute of it. We can see in this video two friends, David Cassidy and Gary Contessa, on May 16, 2008. The horse bred by DC and co-owned by him, and trained by Gary Contessa, 3 year old Sweet Vendetta, won in the mile and eight Grade II, $ 200 000 Black-Eyed Susan stakes, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. That race, besides the Kentucky Oaks and Acron Stakes is the most prestigious race in the USA. Black-Eyed Susan was inaugurated in 1919 and for DC this victory was like a dream comes true. The race took place in difficult conditions, in bad weather and rain, before a crowd of more than 28 000. The tour in Australia was very emotional, for David and for his fans.They didn't care that some journalists weren't impressed at all. In their opinion the tour was a kind of nostalgia, sponsored by the pay tv channel, the album was a collection of old hits, and no one was interested in David's present work and life, only in his past. After a press conference : 'The denim shirt was undone one button more than you might expect (..) narrow shoulders, narrow waist, no hips and legs like a young girl (..) his skin so unlined, so taut. You were not the only one humming Carly Simon..' (A Spent Partridge?, Nov8, 2002, www.smh.com) Of course, David changed, in many ways.. but he looked great and his voice was still intact. Janet Fife-Yeomans saw DC performing live in the UK in the 70s, and in 1985, she saw him on Broadway and in Las Vegas. In 2002 David Cassidy played 35 concerts in the USA, 10 in the UK and after more than 28 years he performed again in Australia (8 concerts). Those concerts promoted 'Then And Now' album. Musicians who played with David on that tour : Lon Bronson - musical director, keyboards, road manager ; Jim McIntosh - guitar, Gary Olds - drums, Frank Fabio - bass, and Lisa Mayer and Candace Davis- Martin  (backing vocals). It was a kind of world tour which brought back a lot of memories. Everybody agreed that those concerts were exceptional. David was in great form, and they were so happy to be together again - he and his fans. 'There is not really that much difference between then and now- aside from the women's underwear. Yesterday a fan, Suzanne McConnell shared with us some memories from the first  David Cassidy's concert in New Zealand, in 1974. Of course it was many years ago, so she could remember 'bits and pieces', the excitement, how he was dressed, that everyone in the audience wanted DC's white bow tie and his white gloves, and that at one moment David was almost pulled off the stage into the crowd (bc of long microphone cord grabbed by some fans)..Elton John surprised everybody playing and singing with David rock'n'roll standards..Suzanne :' All too soon it was over and David was gone.' We have another review about DC's concerts in Auckland  and his visit in New Zealand. It was repeated a few times that he'd looked very tired.
