David Cassidy Being Together

A lot of new articles, notes and posters from the early 70s have been published recently on the Official Website of David Cassidy. And maybe for some fans they are not interesting, but I read everything.  The sheer number of them show how David was famous in the UK and Europe 50 years ago..  I'm especially happy for Spanish mags covers, because so far we haven't had much info about DC in Spain, and I'm sure it's just the beginning. My FB friend, Encarni, has told me that David was often written about in Spanish press. On such mags as 'Hola', 'Lecturas', 'Semana' and 'Diez Minutos'.  Actually Encarni and another FB friend Araceli, didn't value 'Pronto' (the mag we have on the website), because one 'Pronto's  journalist didn't like David.  Except Pronto covers with DC, we have one article published on Diez Minutos, in May 1978. On this day, January 29, in 1971, The Partridge Family Season 1 Episode 18,  'Soul Club' was first aired.  Probably the most famous of all 96 episodes. I know at least 2 serious lists of 100 Greatest TV Episodes Of All Time, with 'Soul Club'  included. On one of them even at #78.  Actually this is not mine favourite episode, but of course there are reasons why this one is so remembered. The script and the guest stars.  Richard Pryor was still unknown in 1971,  (the movie 'Lady Sings the Blues' was released in 1972), and the same can be said about Louis Gossett Jr, who 11 years later would get an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. 'Soul Club' was actually treated as a pilot for a proposed TV series with Pryor and Gossett as Simon brothers.  And 'Bandala'. Written by Wes Farrell and Eddie Singelton (1936-2008). Singelton started his career very early, in the 50s, a singer, songwriter and soul music producer. The lyrics of 'Bandala'...let...

We have some anniversaries in January. Partridge Family's single, 'It's One Of Those Nights' peaked at #20 on Billboard Hot 100 on January 22, 1972.  One of the best songs from the group catalog. Tony Romeo's masterpiece and unforgettable David Cassidy's vocal achievement. Only number 20, and just a few months before, in June 1971, 'I'll Meet You Halfway' was in Top 10.  Since September 1970 Bell Records released 5 Partridge Family albums, and  one Top 10 David's single, 'Cherish'.  Even for the most faithful fans buying every album or a single was a challenge, especially that most of fans were teens. Some people from the industry, already in January 1972 thought that David was on his way out, that he already passed his peak as a teen idol. But not because of his music. but because of his very trendy, posh, famous and younger friends. Most of them were his fans in the early 70s. Boy George put it the best. He said after David died in 2017. 'David Cassidy was the biggest heartthrob of the 70s. Every boy wanted to look like him. His voice was like silk.' So in November 1984 it was the news everywhere, and a big surprise for many, that at the premiere of a new 'Wham!' album, at the most popular London's club, Xenon, at a $12.500 very lavish party, appeared someone unexpected. A song written by a teenager, and recorded twice by David Cassidy in the early 70s.  Joerey Ortiz was a member of a very big family of Mexican and Native American origin, in entertainment for generations, and in the early 70s some of the boys from the family (also Joerey) started playing in a band called 'Silverbird'. In 1971 they released an album which probably was the first album by a Native American band to be released on a major label (Capitol).  Wes Farrell started working seriously with young Joerey, they recorded some demos, but nothing came out of this. But he wrote a really interesting song. And this song started playing in my head two days ago, when I read about David Cassidy listed for Camden Music Walk of Fame. This story is not over yet, and even that people of Los Angeles know what natural disasters can be, they are devasted. Like millions all over the world watching on TV. The sheer scale of the fires and destruction are shocking. David Cassidy and Los Angeles. He went to school here, lived and worked. Recorded music, played concerts. Performed in TV shows, guest starred on many TV programs. He knew everybody, everybody knew him. He was at the top and at the very bottom while living here.  Los Angeles in the 60s was the best place to live for someone like David Cassidy. He loved music and freedom, he was always ready for a new experience and ready to try everything. I'm not going to write a serious entry on DC in LA, it's a fascinating topic of course, but I don't know anything really about LA, I spent there just 2 days in 2019, that's nothing.
