Remembering David Cassidy's Fans

Image
Jacque Cardenas, a fellow fan from the US has written, 'I hope this post is okay..' Of course dear Jacque, your post has saddened me, like many others, but I'm also grateful for it. Jacque Cardenas has informed us that Kim Morgan died in January.  Kim Morgan, as Jacque put it, was 'one of our DC sister', I prefer, 'a fellow fan', but of course it's not important, she was one of us, she was David Cassidy's fan.  Kim Morgan was my FB friend, but not a close one, we became FB friends because in the past she quite often commented my blogs, but I haven't seen her FB posts recently. I didn't know she was unwell ..I wished her Happy Birthday in November and that was all. I even didn't notice her absence, and now I'm truly sorry because of it. And that I lost that opportunity to be a better, a virtual, but nevertheless a friend. A DC sister. I don't know which DC's song was Kim's favourite one, but this one is playing in my head t...

Teen Dream / Shaun Cassidy

Image
I've got Shaun Cassidy's 'Born Late' album. From my dear son-in-law. There is really an impressive vinyl shop in Warsaw, near the place my daughter and her family live.   About 3 years ago my 4-year-old (at the time)  grandson ran into the shop and called (very loud), 'Have you got David for my grandma?!' And that's how it started. This shop is an old one, but no one ever asked about David Cassidy's albums. It's changed now, Ive got there some DC's vinyls,  America's, and even 4 first 10cc albums.  And now there is ALWAYS a DC album on sale in this shop, thanks to me and  my family, I think it's the only place in the whole country when you can get a David Cassidy's album, and a few days ago besides 'Cherish', there was also Shaun's bestselling second solo album from 1977, 'Born Late' But let's first watch wonderful new tribute video made by Sharron Liddle. Cassidy Brothers..what a shame we didn't have video...

David, Andy And Archie

Image
And Bob Colacello, a writer, for 13 years Andy Warhol's ghost writer, and a very close collaborator, a part of his entourage.  On July 25, 1975 they spent some time together at this famous hotel. The Plaza. Only Bob still lives (he was born in 1947). Andy Warhol died in 1987, David 30 years later, and Archie..he was just a small dachshound. DC asked, "And who's this?' Andy Warhol, 'Archie'. There was also present a OUI mag reporter (compering with OUI, Playboy or Penthouse were mags for little kids). The photographs were taken (or belong to) Lynn Goldsmith. And of course also Andy Warhol's took some famous  DC's  polaroid photos. They are in a museum now, we can read about them here. https://www.latimes.com/socal/daily-pilot/entertainment/tn-dpt-et-0108-andy-warhol-ocma-laguna-art-museum-20150107-story.html Maybe a song first. In July 1975 David Cassidy was promoting his solo RCA album, first in Europe, later in the States. So something from 'The Hi...

When Love's Talked About / Wes Farrell, John Bahler and Tony Asher

Image
Oh yes, it's true. 'When love's talked about, love is through, it's run out of me, it's run out of you (...) when love's talked about, it's too late, so let's not talk it out or it'll turn to hate.' Really some lyrics of PF's songs were so mature and serious, but DC always had big smile on his face performing them.  I've been binge watching The Partridge Famly during the last few evenings. It's started with Valentine's Day. A big day for commerce and kids, but rather irritating for me to see those countless DC's pics with hearts and roses. And mostly the present tense used. Yes, I understand, he became our dream boy more than half a century ago, and he stuck there, forever. It's not important really, that if David Cassidy lived he would have been 75 years old in April and we all are middle aged now.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=220JIywCzvk And because of severe weather and not being well I had to stay at home. It was r...

I Write The Songs...Again

Image
Just a short entry today, I haven't planned anything but I have to write about the video posted yesterday by Tracey from our David Cassidy Great Britain Legacy Group.  Every day, for I don't know how many years, Tracey posts a fragment of the lyrics from one of David's songs. It's a kind of educational fun, fans do it together, each fan should write only one line, the next fragment of a song.  It's not easy, sometimes it's difficult to guess the song, and thanks to Tracey, I think now I know all the lyrics by heart, and this way I can appreciate the songs even more. Every evening Tracey post the video with  that day's song. And yesterday the video was the original UK footage of David Cassidy singing 'I Write The Songs' rebroadcast on 192 TV (whatever it is). Of course I've seen many times this video as it was repeated on the Granada Plus channel, and I don't know why watching this particular one yesterday made such an impression on me. Great ...

The Best New Artist Of The Year

Image
Grammy Awards took place a few days ago, I haven't watched it and have no idea who are the winners. I don't know any new songs, I don't listen to the radio really, I just know a few names that everyone knows. Global brands more than singers.  People miss real music, songs with melodies and lyrics. My younger daughter asked me if I rememberd from the 80s Kate Bush' 'Running Up That Hill', and I answered, 'Yes, of course, even better was the video with Donald Sutherland..but why?' And she told me that Netflix made this song extremely popular again. Can you believe it? I don't watch Netflix so I haven't heard about it.   And of course I thought about David Cassidy and so many of his wonderful songs waiting to be rediscoverd. He was making music videos already in the 70s. Or maybe not exactly music videos but his  every TV performance was also an acting role. Like this one, the song and David still sensational. It's difficult to believe it was ta...

'Friend And A Lover' / Wes Farrell, Danny Janssen and Bobby Hart.

Image
A single from 'Notebook' album. There were two singles, 'Looking Through The Eyes Of Love' which peaked at # 39 on January 27, 1973, and 'Friend And a Lover' - #99 on Billboard chart in April 1973.  Why those two songs were been selected? I'd have chosen 'Walking In the Rain' and 'Together We're Better', it's easy to say now of course, but at the time, in 1973, when it was obvious that Partridge Family was on its way down, Wes Farrell must have had his reasons (money, money)..and also 'Friend And A Lover' was a kind of rock song, even that it was close to plagiarism. 'Na Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye recorded by Steam in 1969 was obviously an inspiration for this Partridge Family's song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNGT_CyNVKU You really have to admire David Cassidy, he did his best with this song in recording studio, and even more in that music scene. 'Friend And A Lover' fit quite well with this partic...

David Cassidy On The Oprah Winfrey Show

Image
The episode with David Cassidy for The Oprah Winfrey Show, was taped in Chicago on February 6, 2008. 2008 was a year to remember for David. Impressive Ups and Downs. Let's talk about Ups today. In May, 3 year-old Sweet Vendetta, a horse bred and co-owned by DC, won in the mile and eight Grade II, $200,000 Black Eyed Susan stakes, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.  One of the most prestigious race in the USA, and for DC that victory was like a dream came true - bliss and sheer happiness. The biggest, the most important achievement in his career as horseman and horse breeder, and as we know he bought his first horse when he was still a teen idol, in the early 70s. I think that guest appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show was also very important for David. A proof that he was a star in his native country,  And he was welcomed by screaming and enthusiastic audience. We have a review of that episode published on www.oprah.co. The title -  'The Teen Dream'. And, "Watch ...

I'm Into Something Good / Gerry Goffin and Carole King

Image
After writing my last entry (Rock This Town), I spent a happy hour watching David Cassidy, Micky Dolenz and Peter Noone's concert from March 22, 2013. Great video put together by one and only Lucio. We own him so much, amazing videos and audios from the last decade of David Cassidy's life. Jane Blackie, a fellow fan from our David Cassidy Great Britain Group who also watched this concert on YT, wrote in comment, 'It was brilliant, funny, serious and all worked together really well. I thought All You Lucky people in the audience.' Really well said. I was watching and singing with them, some songs made me smile, some emotional, but first of all I knew every single one of them by heart. Peter Noone, Micky Dolenz and David Cassidy looked like they knew all the lyrics and having great time either.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPL3nfV3q-A&t=13s David was the best, I know that fan means fanatic, but he really was extraordinary, as a performer, a human being and a heart...

Rock This Town / Brian Setzer

Image
In 2013 David Cassidy played 5 concerts with Mickey Dolenz and Peter Noone. One in March, three in September and one in October. They were called, 'David Cassidy Presents The World's Greatest Teen Idols.' A catchy title.  But I've forgotten that he performed with Peter Noone earlier that year, maybe not exactly together, Peter Noone was opening for him 3 times (according to the website), and we have an annoucement about the 1st of those concerts at Winstar Casino (Thackerville, OK), 'David Cassidy and Herman's Hermits featuring Peter Noone' https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Web2013Jan27.html And we have even more impressive poster about the next one gig on February 1, 2013 at the Arena Theatre in Houston. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Web2013February1.html I don't know if that concert in Houston took place at all, anyway we have some wonderful pics of David from January 27 and February 2, 2013. Those three concerts wer...

'Nice To Be Back'

Image
Suddenly one month of 2025 has gone forever, and we have February. And February means an important anniversary. 40 years ago the single The Last Kiss/The Letter was released. In the UK and in Europe. I've recently have written quite a lot about The Last Kiss, also on the myths surrounding this song. David Cassidy told in many interviews how he enjoyed writing songs with Alan Tarney, how it was natural and easy. According to DC The Last Kiss was about something what happened to him. But it's not the whole truth. David wanted that the song's success was mainly due to him, and of course he wonderfully improved and made something new of 'Young Love', the song written by Alan Tarney, recorded and released by Cliff Richard  in... 1981 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saL4G7oIB1o David Cassidy's 'The Last Kiss' was different,  David changed this rather ordinary dance song into something much more meanigful, emotional and dramatic, and the song very quickly becam...

Storybook Love or 'Mamá y sus incredibles hijos'

Image
After yesterday's blog about David Cassidy in Spain, I got some additional, very interestng info from my FB friend Encarni P é rez, David's fan from Spain. It's not the first time Encarni shared with me (and us) some priceless information and articles, or even once she wrote a letter to David for my blog. I'm so grateful for that virtual, but very real friendship, and support. Thank you Encarni. Actually she has written a new blog for us. Encarni, "The series (TPF) began to be broadcast (in Spain) on August 5, 1971 and was titled 'Mam á  y sus incredibles hijos'. The series was dubbed into Spanish in Mexico, so David had a Mexican accent. It was broadcast in the afternoons on the children's program 'Con vosotros', just when we returned from school, at snack time. It stopped being broadcast on April 23, 1973 so we were not able to see the entire series. It was broadcast on TVE 1 and was re-run on TVE 2 in 1977." So probably Season 4 was not ...
