David Cassidy Being Together

I couldn't have wished myself the better entry at the end of this year. What a great article by Linda Higgins.  But first a song, there is a connection with today's entry. David Cassidy still making us happy. And I'm always happy while listening to this song. I especially adore DC's voice when he was in his late 20s. More mature, rich and deep, even more (if it's possible) dreamy and soulful. The lyrics is about lost love, but I have an impression he really enjoyed recording it. Not only David's because it's always good to have a perspective, and 1975 was an amazing year.  50 years ago music was the most exciting and important thing in my life, I was listening to the radio non stop, and enjoyed the music we were allowed to know. Not David's. Even that he was very popular in West Germany (not so far from Poland), and was voted the best, the most popular male vocalist by 'Bravo' readers in 1975, that meant nothing for our censors, DC was not for us, teens behind the Iron Curtain.  I had a very good friend at school, her mother worked in The Ministry of Foreign Trade, and from her business trips she brought Western records for her daughter. I got the old UK chart on Google alerts yesterday. From December 24, 1972. At the first glance, nothing important for us, DC fans, #1 single on that day was one of those tiring songs once you read the title you can't later get rid off it no matter how hard you try. The youngest Osmond's hit, this song was the number one hit for 5 weeks, at the end of 1972 and the beginning of 1973.. Yes, about the lover with long hair. From Liverpool. Or the 4th anniversary of my blog, btw it's called 'David Cassidy Being Together', and at first some people thought that the author was not an unknown fan from Poland, but a lucky lady who wanted to share some info on her secret life with David Cassidy. My first entry was extremely popular because of this misunderstanding.  But of course the title of the blog was from the wonderful Tony Romeo's song, recorded by DC for his first solo album.. The idea from the start was that we fans, would share our love and info about David Cassidy.   Let's start with the great song Wes Farrell's co-written (with Danny Janssen) for David Cassidy. DC recorded it on his first solo album, and we have this wonderful video, 'Could It Be Forever' sung live on Estelar Del Sabado, in Spain, in March 1973.   I've been writing Christmas cards (traditional kind) and one of them was to my dear American friend, and without thinking what I was doing I wrote at the end, 'To you and all your family, your neighbors and your friends, may all your days be happy with a joy that never ends..'. But first the song which has been a lot with me recently. And to think  there was a time I didn't like it. 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town For Old and Tired' as I call it. DC recorded his Christmas EP in August 2016, it was released in November. Just 16 minutes of six Christmas classics, five the same he recorded for Partridge Family. In 1971.  David Cassidy was an extraordinary, one in a kind singer. And all his life he was working with the best musicians, who appreciated his talent. Sharron Liddle, Wendy Copeland and Gillian Priestley, the administrators of The David Cassidy Great Britain Legacy Group, yesterday were in Edinburgh, in Scotland.  In the morning they saw (visited) David Cassidy's plaque at the Edinburgh Playhouse, it's on one of the seats, with those words, " In Memory Of David Cassidy who performed here 1985 & 2002. Forever Missed and Loved. By his Devoted Fans" . I'm in awe of what Sharron Liddle and the members of the Group have achieved, what they have done to commemorate David Cassidy in the UK. Great ideas, determination, a lot of time and also money, but first of all love for David. In the evening, at the same Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre (btw it was opened in 1929, and it's the second largest theatre in the UK after the Hammersmith Apollo), they saw 'Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' with...Donny Osmond as a Pharaoh. and a very special Christmas song. It happened that on this day, 54 years ago, The Partridge Family Season 1 Episode 11, titled 'This Is My Song', was first aired. Do you know that DC had to change his/Keith's clothes 8 times on the set of it ? And that makeup. It must have been sooo boring and tiring. Anyway there was only one song in this episode, 'To Be Lovers', which must have looked a little bit (can't find the word, surreal? strange?) for viewers at the tme. Not only because the song was meant to be written by a kid and a teen, but first of all because on December 4, 1970 'I Think I Love You' still topped Billboard Hot 100, but the viewers of this episode could hear David's voice just for a few seconds. Or maybe it was for the better, at least everybody could hear how good he was compared with the session singers. I've read all the articles from the summer of 1970 published on The David Cassidy Official Website. Those old and those posted a few days ago. There are so many of them. They are the proof the great success of TPF was expected and David was on his way to become a new teen idol.  But nothing was left to chance, and on June 27, 1970, a note appeared on Billboard, "Bell Records is launching a $100,000 promotion campaign, combined with a nationwide tour to support not only the record product, but the new ABC TV series, 'The Partridge Family'. I haven't yet read all the articles published recently on the website, it's impossible. The sheer number of them and the new info.  I wish we had some kind of index to be able to find quickly what's in each article on the website. There are so many of them (articles), and even for someone like me, a former librarian and a DC maniac, it's became difficult recently to find something, and  it takes a lot of time.  Eg in one of those new/old articles DC's shared some memories about growing up in New Jersey. Maybe this is not something interesting for an average fan, but I love such details. And if we'd had an index, this article would have got 2 keywords - 'Concerts 2000's' and 'West Orange' or 'Growing Up - West Orange'. And it could be so easy to find it again, anytime it would be needed.
