'I'm Still Learning About Him'

Image
David's answer when he was asked about 'The Real David Cassidy.'. It was 53 years ago, during filming The Partridge Family's episode at Kings Island Amusment Park. So let's first listen to a song from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Jn9Lb-BS2Q Great episode, wonderful guest stars, Mary Ann Mobley and Johnny Bench, the script was written by Dale McRaven (at the time in a serious relationship with Susan Dey), and directed by the show producer, Bob Claver.  The filming of that episode, called 'I Left My Heart in Cincinnati', took 5 days, 7-11 August, 1972, and was first aired in January 1973. We have a lot of pics off the set showing how difficult was filming the episode in the open to audience, very popular amusment park, and providing security for the Partridges, especially for David. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cPTzNCTJ40 Danny of course had a lot of fun doing this episode. For the filming crew and the main stars of the show it was a tiring experie...

Up To Date

Image
Just the perfect title for today's blog, there are some current developments and exciting  news I want to write about, but there is also an anniversary regarding The Partridge Family album called 'Up To Date'.  Let's start with a song from this outstanding, great album. btw. ALL SONGS on it are just amazing, timless classics, even the one David's hated in the 70s, and nearly left the show because of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-J8ypGTWxg 'Up To Date' was released in February 1971, and on April 24, 54 years ago, it peaked at No 3 on the Billboard chart and stayed there for 53 WEEKS. Amazing achievement. The songs were leftovers from May 1970's sessions, and 5 songs were recorded on November 12 and 13. In a rare interview conducted during the recording sessions for that album, in November 1970, Wes Farrell said, 'David's level of enthusiasm about the music is like an atomic bomb explosion. He knows a lot about music. He's not like some...

"I'll Leave Myself a Little Time For Some Gladness"

Image
From the song written by Steve Dossick. I've read today on www.whenweresinging,com, that he was a Wes Farrell's favourite, and that 'The Love Song' (also written by him and featured on The Partridge Family's episode with Mark Hamill) was recorded by Barbra Streisand. Wow. What a shame that not by David Cassidy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beFhU-Bxy7 Even Mark Hamill was singing. I can imagine what David Cassidy could have done with it if he'd had a chance. His young, magical voice..We believe in love songs, especially those sung by David. Always. In every word. And there is that other song, written by Steve Dossick. From 'Up To Date' album, released in February 1971, but this particular song, 'I'll Leave Myself a Little Time' was recorded in May 1970. It's amazing how David was 'studio ready' from the start. How talented he was and how fast he was learning.  And already in June 1970 quite a lot of people knew about it. In seri...

New Updates. The Articles

Image
I've read all new (old) articles Jane has downloded on The Official Website of David Cassidy to mark April 12, 2025. Some of them are not new, we've had them for years, published on other newspapers, but it was an interesting read. The articles are mostly from the early 70s and 90s, it's a shame nothing new from 1985, when DC played his UK tour.  March 1972. A lot of notes on upcoming DC's concerts and how much he earned on them. We can read that MSG concert grossed $130,972, and because David also performed the next day, on March 12, in Bangkor, ME, he earned that weekend $172,218. Poor David, they counted (and envied) him every single dollar.  June 1972. That was interesting. It happened that David and Jack were working at the same studio at that time. DC filming TPF, and his father guest starred in another TV show. According to the article they met for the first time in 10 months. Jack Cassidy, "We've both been so busy that we hadn't seen each other si...

Non-Fiction Books Featuring David Cassidy

Image
When I've seen today this section of The Official Website of David Cassidy, for a few minutes I was speechless..The page has been completely reworked and a lot of new items have been downloaded. Wow! And one more Wow! Amazing and chapeau bas (hat off) to a person who has made it. Jane or Lanie or someone else, thank you so much. The page is beautifully done, books in alphabetical order, the year, authors, and first of all we can read those fragments where DC is mentioned. Wow again. It's amazing and sooo needed. Thank you so much. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Books.html Like a kid in a candy store, where to start. I've started with Alice Cooper's book from 2007. Not much, but what a fragment, about his concerts in 1975, "There were musicians and celebrities in our dressing room at the end of every show - John Lennon, David Cassidy, Lou Reed, Todd Rundgren, the Doors, Aerosmith, Andy Warhol". Really impressive list. In Andrew Lloyd Webber...

In Memory Of David.

Image
'See the funny little clown...But be certain not to stray, he will steal your heart away.' (Tony Romeo, 1971) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOL5P8t7e5w It was a day to remember, and after 24 hours I'm trying to write down how we, David's fans, all over the world, remembered David Cassidy on a day which would have been his 75th birthday, So many wonderful, truly touching things happened during this last weekend. Maya James, my FB friend, and dear fellow fan, has put it the best. 'It's wonderful how many Facebook pages are acknowledging David on his 75th birthday and seeing his beautiful face plastered everywhere just like our bedrooms used to be.' Not only Facebook pages. Also on Twitter, Instagram and Threads. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iBQnhmvsfI There were a lot of posts, David was remembered by the members of his family, his famous friends, but first of all by fans. Those lucky ones, who'd met him in person or seen him on stage, shared their p...

David Cassidy In His Own Words

Image
I've been thinking what to write on David Cassidy's 75th birthday and I really had no idea what. I could think of nothing but cliches worthy of a 12-year-old girl. How much we miss him etc. Maybe a list of fav songs..but I love all of them. I really had no idea, and like always DC himself turned out to be an inspiration. But first the song David Cassidy wrote himself long, long time ago, in the beginning of his career. When I started writing my book on him 2 years ago, I knew from the start that only the title of this song should be the title of my book, because love what was he ever needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGrdlR1fKr4 This is a great video made by not a fan, and I love those comments. To mark what would have been David's 75th brthday, a lot of new additions have been uploaded to The Official Website of David Cassidy. And looking at this long list I feel like a kid in a candy shop, there are so  many new pics and articles, even books. Non-fiction books menti...

"Long LIve The Outlaw" David Cassidy Exclusive

Image
Actually the title of this article was "The Goodie is Dead, Long Live the Outlaw. David Cassidy exclusive by Rosalind Russell". It was published 48 years ago, on March 19, 1977, on Record Mirror, in the UK. I found this interview completely by accident, yesterday on Pinterest. It wasn't easy to read because the photo of the article was blurred, and a fragment (who knows how big) was missing. I also tried in vain to edit the pic from the article, the one you can see here. For some reasons I was very excited finding this interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao4gtpXF8aA   Record Mirror was a weekly British music magazine, maybe not so popular as New Musical Express, but each week the official UK singles and albums charts, and the USA's Billboard charts were published there. And a lot of info and interviews. On the Official Website of David Cassidy we have more than 40 articles, notes or just covers (some of them truly amazing) with David Cassidy, published on Recor...

"The Birthday Of The Week. David Cassidy"

Image
Someone has written this on social media (I got it on Google Alerts). Nothing more, no pic, no comment, and I have no idea if this person is a fan. Just those words, "The Birthday Of The Week. David Cassidy". And for me it was like the sound of an alarm clock. We've been waiting for this day for such a long time, and suddenly it is now, this week. David Cassidy's 75th birthday.  Let's watch one more time this video, Barney Robertson's song, 'You Were The First One', recorded by David Cassidy for his unreleased album, in 1979. And yes, I know he wasn't happy when those songs appeared in 1991, by Curb Records in Japan, but I love all of them.  'You Were The First One' is one of my top DC's 'beach songs', one of those to listen to on the beach, in the evening, looking at the sea and sunset and listen to David Cassidy's magical voice. How he sings this song, so dreamy, it's so captivatng. We read and heard so many times Davi...

April Showers / Louis Silvers, Buddy DeSylva

But first Val Kilmer. I started writing this blog yesterday, it was such a fabulous early Spring evening, and my blog was really optimistic, but in the morning I read about Val Kilmer, and I've taken his death rather personally, for not a particular reason. I first saw him in 'Willow', and I loved his character in this adventure fantasy film, he was full of life in this role, flamboyant, shining and so irresistible, maybe because he fell in love on the set..I didn't follow his career, but he was always present, somehow..What a tragedy for an actor, and Val Kilmer started as a stage actor, and performed in the theatre all his life, to have difficulty with speaking, and it happened to him, he had a throat cancer for a decade. And last but not least he was from our generation, and I never forget what Val Kilmer, a global movie star, wrote in November 2017, "RIP David Cassidy. He was such a huge star when I was a child, he made pukka shell necklace a must have! We used...
