Going To England. May 2022

Image
I'm going to England soon. In May. Thanks to David Cassidy. A dream coming true.. I was born in a communist country. Behind The Iron Curtain. We didn't have ..many, many things, but for me the most painful was the lack of  anything English, books, records, newspapers, or just pics or news. I didn't know English, we had a little bit of it at high school, but it was very basic, we were taught from very old and uninteresting textbooks. England might as well be on the Moon for me. Of course we couldn't travel abroad.  But miracles happen, and in 1989 with the collapsing of the Soviet Union, Poland became an independent country. I was 27 years old, I had a husband, a daughter, a dog..and nothing more really. We lived in a very small rented flat and were very poor. Many years passed and at last I went to London for the very first time. Of course everything was very expensive for me, I stayed somewhere in Acton, shared bathroom with many other people, and I was walking through...

The Las Vegas Stories. Timm McCoy

My Literal Whirlwind Trip For David. On July 7, 2021 I received a letter in the mail from The Las Vegas Walk Of Fame inviting me to Las Vegas to celebrate David Cassidy's Star ceremony. I was taken by surprise thinking, "Who would remember I was ever friends with David?" Apparently, a lot of people. So, for a whole year I planned the trip 1 year out. Why? I do suffer from COPD and PTSD, you know, all the fashionable abbreviations. Since COVID I have been secluded for 3 years. No contact with anyone. Mentally that's a lot safer with PTSD. So, after 10,000 changes in what I had to say, I finally had my story on David. Nothing to personal yet not so much about me, but I find it difficult not to talk about David without talking about me. Maybe a little A.D.D. too? So, my first venture into the real world since I was invited by Josh Robert Thompson who did Geoff The Gay Robot on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in 2014 for a 5 day stay in Los Angeles. Again, I regr...

The Partridge Family. Whatever Happened To Moby Dick?

Image
Just a short entry today..A little whining ... 'Whatever Happened To Moby Dick?'. That episode was first aired in October 1971. An eco friendly episode,  there are some wonderful off the set David's pics with orcas, it must have been such  fun for him.  An episode with Shirley as a lead vocalist. I've been taking screenshots of it today for the DC Official Website (April Dent's written the synopsis) and thinking about..time.  Taking those screen shots..it's such a bitter-sweet experience, admiring young David's beauty, he looks so timeless, so cool (at least in my eyes, 'looking through the eyes of love..'), but of course it was so many, many years ago. There is one pic, a group scene with 8 persons and 4 of them are dead now, Bert Convy, Dave Madden, Suzanne and David. Strange.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C14dcjtL0Oc And that project. TPF Episode Synopsis. We started it in July last year. We were sure a lot of fans would be happy to have an opp...

Summer 2021. In the midst of the global pandemic, my friend Linda asks me if I would like to travel with her to Las Vegas in 2022. To reveal a star like in Hollywood there on the strip of David Cassidy. She explains it all in an email and refers me to the site LVWOS and says join and see what you think of this idea.. It's really out of the blue. My retrospective farewell to David was in 2004, unconsciously, when his last handshake in the Wolf den Connecticut is etched in my memory. I was with the gang at the time, so I called the group of girls worldwide with whom I often arranged to travel to David and stay. I discuss the proposal with my husband and he says 'do it' with a big smile!! and at the same time 'I see that you have already decided'… This is your goodbye to David!! Plans are made, but brief. First we order tickets for the Donny O performance, these will be for sale on Ticketmaster in October 2021. He plays in Harrahs {we can still sell them}..anything wit...

My First Night Alone Without You / Kim Vassy

Image
Don't be afraid, this is not the end of The Las Vegas Stories, I hope to publish more, just waiting for some. And  meanwhile an entry (for the second time) about that amazing and powerful song, the song most of us love so much. And for some personal reasons I've been listening to it a few times recently. Maybe Bonnie Ratt's version. It was a hit in 1975. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu7dmCRmn6g Beautiful..but it lacks something. As if she had already come to terms with her fate. What can be done, she is  sad but somehow it will be.. 'My First Night Alone Without You' was written and recorded as a promo by Kin (Kim) Vassy ( Charles Kindred Vassy, 1943-1994) a singer who worked with Elvis and Frank Zappa, and also a successful songwriter. And in 1972 a lot of really known artists recorded that song. Apart from David also Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick and Bobby Darin. Let's check Ray Charles' version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kxTy0egFTo No, not for me,...

The Las Vegas Stories. Barb Collentine

Another great story..Barb, thanks to you I feel like I was there too..in that moment in time Las Vegas— Our Moment.               We came from all over the world.  We came from Netherlands, Denmark, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South America, America. We came on planes, buses and cars; we took Ubers and shuttles. We brought suitcases, we brought make up bags. We brought cameras and iPhones and iPads. We brought it all and we had been waiting to come for two years.  We came to Vegas.  We came for David.   What else can I add about the Las Vegas Star event where we came from every corner of the globe for the man who throughout all our lives remained tucked into every corner of our hearts? How do I explain the feelings? We were speechless, we were tear-filled, we were silly, we were joyful. We were instant friends who’d never known each other but who for 51 years continued to tend the same emotion in each of our hearts:...

Another great story today,  my special FB friend from Canada, Laurie. But first a few words from me. I've been asked why I publish those stories..Strange question really, so far only 3, and I'd love to have many more. Because those fans experienced something special, they were in Las Vegas in our name, the rest of the DC fans who couldn't make it. It was the first (and I hope not the last) that kind of gathering. Of course fans met in London in 2018 (The Phoenix Theatre Plaque), but they met just for that event, and they were only from the UK.  We should cherish those memories, and each one is different, like each review from any DC's concert are not the same. There is always that personal touch. And we should be grateful that fans share with us their memories..we are in difficult situation. Sometimes I looked at the other fan pages..Osmonds'..even The Monkees'..they still have sth to wait for..We will not have new songs, interviews or concerts.  Now  let's ...

Two milestone moments occurred in the spring of 2022 – March 3, marked 50 years since I saw David Cassidy in concert. Little is written about that 1972 concert in San Antonio and I feel it’s because it occurred days before two of David’s most famous concerts at the Astrodome and Madison Square Garden. And on April 12, I was fortunate to be among the fans who came from across the U.S. and from around the globe to celebrate David receiving his Star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. I decided early on I would attend, and even though the lingering pandemic was still a concern, I knew I just had to be there. In Jan, I began sewing tiny beads, hearts and stars, one-by-one, on two of the event T-shirts I purchased, as a way to personalize them and my way to honor David.  And as I counted down the months and weeks, it was exciting learning about event details on the David Cassidy’s Official Las Vegas Walk of Stars 2022 Facebook page and as the date drew closer, anticipation and excitement co...

'It's The Same Guy Singing..'

Image
Since David's last birthday and Las Vegas Official Star I've had a crisis regarding my blog. There are many reasons, not only that we've achieved such an amazing goal and now we are looking for something new..Of course there is Music London Walk Of Fame, but it seems that even fans don't believe in it. Sorry, but after I don't know how many weeks less than 600 fans have signed the petition. If we fans ourselves don't believe that DC should be honoured..Or maybe we need more time and more writing about it. That's the link. https://chng.it/8x76Xwmrgt I think I've written about all David's songs so far, but  I return to his music all over again, daily, and DC and his songs never let me down, and I receive a lot of feedback that fans (and not fans) still want to read my blog. People from all over the world, and recently I've had a reader from Ukraine and the same day another one...from Russia. Yes, we are fans wherever we live..And of course David wi...

The Las Vegas Stories. Sandie Leeming

Image
Today another great fan's story. Thank you so much Sandie Leeming. As soon as I knew of this star ceremony I knew I wanted to be there. It wasn't just the opportunity to honour David but also the opportunity to meet those fans around the world I had been speaking to on Facebook and late night zoom calls for so many years.  I booked my ticket in January along with my friend Kathryn and it was a long winter counting down the days till I could go. I had been to Vegas in 1978 but realised it would have changed so much over the years.  The first day we were at Ballys hotel it was very hot and it was lovely to meet some of the fans I knew through Facebook around the pool that afternoon. There were so many hugs going around and lots of chat.     The next day we had the Fans night but during the day we walked around Vegas and found David's star at the foot of the Eiffel Tower not far from where we were staying. Vegas did not disappoint.  You could be anywhere ...

The David Cassidy Official Las Vegas Star Ceremony.

Image
Most fans have returned home (I know one fan from Australia is still in America), now when the event has become a memory I think it’s time  to write about the meaning of it.The Meaning of The Star. Since November 2017 fans have been working very hard to commemorate David Cassidy. Plaques, benches, charities, Timm McCoy’s David Cassidy Day, special radio programs, podcasts, now we have a star..Everything is important, but that event in Las Vegas is something which has a special meaning. It was a  magical time. A  time for making new amazing friendships. The gathering of David Cassidy's big family. Because we, DC’s fans, are the same generation and we love David Cassidy. I’ve been trying to read and watch all what fans posted on social media. Feeling of course envious watching those wonderful videos, but also genuinely happy for those lucky and brave ones who decided to go. Fans from different parts of the US, Canada, South America, Europe and Australia. Not an easy decisio...

Fever/ Eddie Cooley, John Davenport

Image
Peggy Lee's famous song was a cover, but many people think that 'Fever' was her composition And in a way it is, becuse she added new arrangment and lyrics. It's her signature song. She recorded it in 1958, and Elvis his own great version in 1960.  A lot of artists covered the song, we can read the list of them in Wikipedia. Madonna, Petula Clark, Michael Buble, Helen Shapiro, Bette Midler..even Suzi Quatro. There is no David's name on that list and it's a shame because his version was great and different.  Of course the song was recorded in many different styles. I like flamboyant Jam's version from 1982. Fabulous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRG38oYYKIs This is one of those songs which everybody knows and it  looks very easy to sing. But first of all you should have a very good voice and know what you are singing about. So many covers are just boring, because (if I can put it this way) a voice and a beat are the most important instruments in that song. ...

I Heard You Singing Your Song / Barry Mann

Image
Let's first listen to that fabulous Partridge Family's song.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miD6zZwRPVs 'And I couldn't help but sing along'. It happens to me all the time.. This is not an entry about new or interesting info regarding DC. I haven't found any forgotten articles or unknown videos, no. But it doesn't mean that what I want to write is not important. On the contrary. David's music helped many, many fans to survive. I've read about it and I heard about it. My English friend who was bullied at school in the 70s, told me that the only happy hours she had was while listening to David's songs in her room. And of course there were thousands like her, not only in the 70s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MumquQrK6mo When I was at high school I had to learn a Robert Schumann's quote (our music teacher was very strict) - 'To send light into the darkness of men's hearts - such is the duty of the artist.'. I didn't think abo...

The Lost Performances..The Voice of The Turtle.

Image
David and Kay..We have a lot of pics, but the tape of their guest appearance on Good Morning America, July 23, 1979, didn't exist anymore. At the time they were just to appear together on stage, for the first and only time. In 'The Voice of The Turtle'. David wanted to work with his wife. She wasn't so sure about it. And in June 1977, just 2 months after their marriage she gave an interview and said : 'David can think of us working together more easily than I can. Work was always the one place I had to myself, the one thing I never let boyfriends in on..I would never even let them on the set to watch me work. With David, it's going to have been different. I'm trying to learn that you don't give something up just because you share it with someone.' (June 18, 1977. Marilyn Beck : 'Cassidy-Lenz union happy despite work'). It explains a lot of things.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQfzIImCP84 David said in one interview :'a friend of ours ...

The Lost Tapes and David Cassidy in Conversation with Selina Scott

Image
I have no idea about other known musicians and their websites, but I feel disappointed that so many of DC's tv guest appearances and radio interviews are lost for us ..I'm afraid forever. Of course from time to time sth amazing emerges out of the blue, and I was very excited 2 years ago when Gary published  this video, and I'm grateful in spite of .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMUapVQ7LiI Nearly everyday we have something new. A fan sends some old pics took 50 years ago, or an article no one heard about, or a concert audio. Now there are also podcasts and I think the links to them should be on the website too. Everything is important. Consider the 70s concerts. Let's say August 13, 1972. 2 concerts at Wildwood Convention Hall, NJ. We have 1 photo and audio from both concerts, only because a fan, Betty Ernst saw DC twice that day and she recorded everything on a cassette tape and Lucio many years later made out of them  digital recordings. Truly amazing experience l...

As Time Goes By / Herman Hupfeld

A song from 'Casablanca' and a blog about celebrating David Cassidy's birthday? I explain at the end of that entry.  This year David's birthday was celebrated truly worldwide. The unforgettable gathering in Las Vegas, but also some fans met in Liverpool and in London..London, I hope to be there again in May. There are many, many places in this wonderful city connected with David Cassidy. He lived and worked in London, felt like at home.  Pauline Tombs has written for us about April 12th celebration in London. Pauline Tombs : (all comments in brackets are mine, not Pauline's) ' There weren't many of us - me, Roz Currie, Tim Edwards and just days before, we had an enquire from Paula Noverraz as what we would be doing. Not too much really but a celebration and remembrance of a special person, David Cassidy! We all met in Foyles Book Shop ( what a wonderful choice!) on the 5th floor where we introduced ourselves to Paula, with a brief discussion of what we were...
