Going To New York. And Trying To Prepare

Image
I've done some really unexpected things because of David Cassidy, since 2017. Like going to California in 2019 (and Nevada, Utah and Arizona), hiking in Wiltshire (it could be exciting, believe me) or starting writing my blog (which was a marvel in itself), but fast upcoming trip to New York City and West Orange in July 2025 suprass everything I've ever dreamt about and done. But you know, 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More than Wishes'.. https://youtu.be/9ZBBMTrjSig?si=wUhn3hlOxsqzOTPe There are a lot of against for going, some very serious ones, but also very strong for, only 2 in fact, but it's been enough for me to decide. The first one is Mary Anthony, a fellow American fan, who's become more than just a name, so meeting her in person, spend some time together is a great opportunity to experience something special. To be there with a friend who patiently answers any stupid question asked by me, and who is a devoted David's fan herself. The second and even m...

The Most Important Thing I've Learnt From David Cassidy

Image
It's going to be rather serious, and hopefully not too personal, but upcoming birthdays, mine and DC's, have made me think about the impact he had on our lives. I'll be 63, and one week later David Cassidy would have been 75. He was always 12 years older than me, and now I'm watching his videos when he was the same age as me now. https://youtu.be/Wmzks_GNNUE?si=7JWNVjtP3ADZdkWc He still was looking all right at 63. But it was different David as he used to be in his 50s..He had a lot of problems, personal and with money again, a lot of health issues, but like always the exciting and wonderful performer, in a league of his own. We've got so much from him. His music first of all, we listen to all his songs all over again, we watch his concerts footage, and the videos of his TV appearances as a guest star. And everything he ever done. He still makes us happy.  https://youtu.be/LphhCMAbrC4?si=mXoDNBYG5-GgNoAl We know all the lyrics too.. And there are also things we'...

One Night Stand / Wes Farrell and Paul Anka

Image
Or maybe Paul Anka with a little help of Wes Farrell. Anyway, yesterday it was 52 years since the premiere of the series' episode called 'Diary Of a Mad Millionaire', in which David Cassidy performed that song. Maybe not the best of The Partridge Family's episode, but very memorable because of the music numbers.  The first one is just a fragment, but how I love this charming song written by Terry Cashman and Tommy West. From Crossword Puzzle album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_1z_5EOWPc It's worth to add that John Astin who played that title millionaire, will be 95 years old on March 30, and until  his retirement in 2021, he was director of the Theater Arts an Studies Department and Homewood Professor of the Arts at Johns Hopkins University (btw he graduated from it in 1952). What a man!  The second song was 'One Night Stand'. A wonderful song from the Partridge Family best album, 'Sound Magazine', released in August 1971. It took a while for th...

'I Just Didn't Want To Be A Nostalgia Act'

Image
That fragment is from December 2001, "I was never uncomfortable wth the fact that it (The Partridge Family) had tremendous impact and was so successful. I just didn't want to be a nostalgia act. I wanted to go on and have a present." It's a kind of litemotive of many DC's interviews. When 'The Last Kiss' was released in February 1985, he said, "My great fear was that I'd end up doing a pathetic golden oldies tour if I stayed in the business." And exactly on this day, in 2013, DC played a concert called, 'David Cassidy presents The World's Greatest Teen Idols,' With Peter Noone and Micky Dolenz. All the songs performed that night were the hits from the 60s and 70s (with one exception - 'Rock This Town'. Yes, it was nostalgia, but this exciting concert wasn't a pathetic one, even that the audience knew every single song.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3t1Vwo8qho Three amazing performers singing a timeless  pop masterp...

'David At His Best'

Image
But first something which has made me realise (again), that whatever we do and write about DC's legacy, and regardless what David Cassidy achieved and how wonderful singer he was (in every decade of his career), he is stuck in this one moment of time, to the end of the world. Forever Keith Partridge and a teen idol. DC wanted to live in the present. We can read this in his books and in countless interviews. He wrote about the years when he was a global star, "I am still amazed by it, awed by it, and often proud of it. Have been questioned endlessly for over thirty years about my life and career. However, I simply wish to live in the now. Fortunately for me, I have a great now. Now is where my happiness lives. But, man, did it take me a long time to get over that hump.' (David Cassidy, ' Could It Be Forever? , 2007, p.X. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZFHa3QOvkI And 2 days ago, instead a new update, on the FB page of The Official Website of David Cassidy, appeared a...

'Rock Me Baby'..

Image
or about the danger of publishing fake photos. I thought about that song yesterday when I saw a new, amazing, fascinating pic published on one of our DC groups. David Cassidy in 1976, on stage, playing the guitar, a rock star in action, Eric Carmen (also on this stage) looking at him in amazment. So let's start with Rock Me Baby. In 1974 the last David's concert number. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EqEYCEUAEM Yes, for the rest of the world Davd Cassidy, especially in the 70s, was a teen idol, a pop singer for little girls, but the world was wrong. DC was an amazing live performer, and he knew it. He wrote such a song himself, in 1975. 'When I'm a Rock'n'Roll Star'. And such a star we can see on this amazing photograph from 1976.  But after the loud 'WOW!' I let out after seeing the photo, I thought to myself, 'Hold On! Maybe it's another fake pic and I again don't understand the joke'. Because recently 2 fake DC's pics have be...

How To Find Articles On The Official Website Of David Cassidy

Image
Not a very catchy title, more like a manual not a blog about someone so charismatic and exciting as DC was. Of course for people who everyday use the website and the info gathered there, everything is very easy, especially since Jane changed the main page a few years ago.  I have my share in it, because when she asked for my opinion, I said that first of all the access to the 'In Print' section should have been much easier. And it is now.  But maybe first a song. From 'Gettin' It In The Street' album, David Cassidy's version is amazing, the 'original cover', he made a new song out of a Harry Nilsson's rather average number, David's is soulful and full of passion. So exciting..and his voice is pure magic. The Story of Rock and Roll. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SchoM1IdOrc So how to find articles on the Official Website of David Cassidy. Our starting point is a homepage, the first page the visitors see when they click and open the website, an...

'Cassidy Was There..'

Image
The title of the note published on March 11, 1972 on a newspaper called 'New York Daily News'. It was about DC's stay in London in February 1972,  but what a great title for a blog on David's the most famous and important concert. Madison Square Garden, NYC. March 11, 1972. The 53rd anniversary will be tomorrow. We know that there was proposal for David to play this concert already in November 1971, but Ruth Aarons thought that at the time he was not ready yet for it, and besides his November schedule was insane without it, and last but not least he was very tired and in need of a break.. When the time came, March 1972, he was not very well, he was still fighting the flu, as we can read in Rolling Stone article written by Robin Green. But regardless how he felt that concert was his moment of glory. It was Saturday. The concert aroused an unusual level of interest, and tickets just flew out. At the press conference before the concert, the room was packed with photographe...

I Remember ...March

Image
I know it was April, but it should have been March.  'I remember March, in rain and in the sun, the love was burning in our eyes..' or something like that. The most important month for David Cassidy and his fans. I know. because I was the one who finished 'On This Day' project for the website, and the highest number of events regarding DC happened  in March. Especially in the 70s. The most memorable, important, legendary David Cassidy's concerts took place in that month. The first and the last ones.  The Astrodome and MSG in 1972.  De Doelen, Belle Vue and Empire Pool in 1973. Australia, Hong Kong and Japan in 1974. Every single pic, video or audio is priceless. We have 2 great documentaries of course, 'To Australia With Love' and 'Weekend At Wembley', both managed to show DC's phenomenon, this frenzy surrounding him, and at the same time what a wonderful, caring human being he was, and an amazing, exciting  live performer.  https://www.youtube.c...

The Last Concert

Image
Yes, on this day, in 2017, David Cassidy played his last ever concert. 8 years ago, in the city he was born and loved, and now even the place he performed in doesn't exist anymore. It was closed in April 2018. Very often we don't know that we are doing something for the very last time. But David Cassidy and his fans knew that this gig was probably the last. According to the website one more was planned, in June, but it was cancelled.  Fans knew that this March gig would be the last opportunity to see once more David Cassidy on stage. Lucio, "David made the announcement of his retirement, and suddenly BB King's became the last concert. Of course I had to be there as were hundreds of people lined up way down 42nd street in Times Square. Youngsters must be wondering which current superstar was performing this very cold March evening in the busiest section of NYC. 'Sold Out' was the replay given to anyone looking to purchase tickets and no one was willing to sell...

March 1972. Houston, TX

Image
David Cassidy performed in San Antonio on March 3, 1972, and maybe spent the night there, or more probably right after it went to Houston, where he was to appear twice on March 5 as the star of The Houston Livestock and Rodeo. There is only 200 miles from San Antonio to Houston, maybe he just flew there, 50 years ago flying was much easier. Houston Astrodome was opened in 1965, it was the world's first multi-purpose, domed sports stadium, seated around 50 000 fans. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the largest in the world, it was founded n 1931.  In 1972 there was the 40th anniversary of that big event. It started on February 23 and was closed on the day David Cassidy performed there, on March 5. Each day was a different star. For example on February 25 (when the Rodeo started) - Ray Rogers & Dale Evans. On March 1 - The 5th Dimension, Wayne Newton on March 2. Glen Campbell on March 4, and on the last day - David Cassidy.  We are very lucky having an interview with ...

March 1972. San Antonio, TX

Image
It was extremely busy and exciting month for David Cassidy, March 1972. Of course he was busy all the time during those years of his global stardom, but March 1972 was really special. And for the most part of it he was fighting with the flu. In the only possible way he was allowed. He was taking antibiotics and painkillers. The show must go on.  In March DC played 6 concerts, maybe the number is not very impressive, but we must remember that each time he flew from LA and after concerts often returned home.  The first one was played on March 3, 1972, 53 years ago, at HemisFair Arena, in San Antonio, in Texas. That indoor arena, also known as San Antonio Convention Center Arena, was for years home to the San Antonio Spurs. The sitting capacity for basketball was around 10k. It was demolished in 1995. For my very close American friend, Mary Anthony, it was the first ever concert. She was 11 years-old and she was allowed to go (it was Friday and the concert started at 8 p.m.) with...
