I Write The Songs (Again). And Some Anniversaries

Image
There are not many important dates regarding David in June, especially compared to May, but it's worth writing about these few. Let's start with a song.  The Partridge Family had three Top 10 hits in the US during its short career. "I Think I Love You', #1, 'Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted', #6, and on June 12, 1971 "I'll Meet You Halfway' peaked on Billboard Hot 100 at #9. Written by Wes Farrell and Gerry Goffin, first released on Up To Date, the second group's studio album, in February 1971. A very special song, one of the most loved by fans, David performed it in 1971 and 1972, in Australia in 1974. Returned to it in 1991. Also on 'This Could Be The Nigh Tour, in the UK, in November 2008.  We can hear David Cassidy and his band singing it at the beginning of 'The Last Session' doc, aired for the first time on June 11, 2018. How we, fans, argued about this doc. And now, after 8 years, this is still the only film about David...

A Touch Of Blue

Image
Not the best title for today's blog, but, 1. I binge listening to this album this week 2. I feel little blue myself. I should have started my holiday in the UK today, I was looking forward to it, preparing for some time, we had so many plans...  but I had to cancel everything last week. I'm not even sad, but yes, 'A Touch of Blue', it's a perfect description of my mood today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr3fFMZ2GXw&list=RDHr3fFMZ2GXw&start_radio=1 And to think that once I didn't appreciate David's version of this Paul McCartney's masterpiece. Amazing cover. Such a known song, nevertheless he was able to add something own, something personal,  It's made me cry a little bit today. Don't worry I'll be fine.  And one more song from this great album. We still can't get him out of our hearts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsJSAqv8GGE&list=RDfsJSAqv8GGE&start_radio=1 I want to write a little bit about something of course not...

I'll Be Your Magician / Irwin Levine, L.Russell Brown

Image
First a song that for some time has not wanted to leave me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yITRKjBn2Jc&list=RDyITRKjBn2Jc&start_radio=1 'I'll Be Your Magician'. Difficult to believe but today I've listened to David Cassidy singing it for the first time in my life. I mean, I read about it, I even watched Danny Bonaduce once 'performing' it on a TV program in 1973. but I never heard David's version.  But that's what friends are for, my fellow fans. Scotti wrote about it, and Linda published the link for me. Actually this video appeared on You Tube 3 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NWSJyZu_J8&list=RD8NWSJyZu_J8&start_radio=1 In the style of the 60s, reminds a bit The Kinks' classic, 'Sunday Afternoon'. I checked it in Johnny Ray Miller's book, and 'I'll Be Your Magician' was a demo for use in Season 2. That version (and some other songs, but not by David) was on a vinyl pressing released by Screen Gem...

'Dear David Cassidy'

Image
Great updates on the Website a few days ago, new items for the cathegory called "In Print. Non-fiction books featuring David Cassidy". There are books written by DC, and by others, about David Cassidy, or those in which he is mentioned. There are the most of the latter, quite a long list and it's always exciting when new items appear. Let's start with a song. This live version of 'Get It Up For Love' from 1985, is simply sensational, David in a great vocal form and great shape, so full of energy and just pure joy that he could make his fans happy again. Give and take. Of course he was still so young.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dc0hqIU-Vs&list=RD-dc0hqIU-Vs&start_radio=1 I want to write about 2 books. The first one  is 'George Michael - The Life 1963 - 2016  : The Man, The Legend, The Music', published in 2017, and written by Emily Herbert. I have no idea how old is she but it looks like she has written a lot of known people's biograp...

Remembering In May..

Image
It looks like I write an entry about May's anniversaries every year. Of course it's a coincidence that so many important people for David Cassidy's life and  career were born in May. Very important.  Today The Creator, The Producer and The Musical Director. Amazing, very successful and professional men, for a few years so important for David, they were  working with him, teaching him and witnessing how a young unknown actor became a global superstar and  accomplished artist. Let's start with a song, also connected with May, because it was on May 11th, 1970 when David Cassidy was for the very first time at the recording studio. His first song performed on TV..This video has 6 million views, more than 3k comments, some of them written this year. David Cassidy's first and the most important song recorded in May, 56 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r9UtIhOI8M&list=RD2r9UtIhOI8M&start_radio=1 Bernard Slade, the creator of The Partridge Family was born ...

Our Friend, Laurie Eby.

Image
First a song. Laurie posted yesterday a pic of her room, with DC and Sam Hyman photographs on the wall, and she wrote a few words for Sam Hyman, but not only he answered, Laurie Eby has a lot of friends who haven't forgotten her, and we all wish her a full recovery. I read her post too and thought about this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFCpbdtwQac&list=RDkFCpbdtwQac&start_radio=1 Laurie Eby, from Canada. My age, a little bit younger, born in 1962. Smart, witty, funny and inspirational. Sophisticated. Very attractive. Expressive, stands out in the group. Own strong opinions. Stubborn.  The kind of person people fell in love with or don't like at all. Nothing average about Laurie. There is only one weakness..her health. 4 years ago, in April 2022, Laurie wrote an entry for my blog. https://talkingaboutdavid.blogspot.com/2022/04/the-las-vergas-stories-laurie-eby.html I couldn't go to Las Vegas in 2022. We often talked that one day..she invited me to visit her...

It Should Have Been Me / William Stevenson and Norman Whitfield

Image
One more great cover from 1979. The song was written in 1963, recorded by various artists, but never really a big hit. David's version is soulful, full of passion, his voice rich and seductive.. I think he had a lot of fun recording it, it's also a great dance number.  Of course each and all of us had at last once the same dream, the same wish. It should have been me..Me and David. And now some fans can fulfill that dream thanks to AI. I'm strongly against it, even that I know that nothing can stop fans from making those short scenes (I don't know how to call them). At first it looked innocent, a fake David (his animated photo) smiling at the image of younger version of the author of such fantasy, later we got a fake David hugging a fan, now serious kissing started. I can't see anything funny in it, in my opinion it's a serious obsession, and it's very sad because David Cassidy, his image, was so exploited, and now own David's fans.. https://www.youtube....

'Three Cheers For Our Good Pal, Henry Diltz!'

Image
A catchy title, but first a song. From David's album recorded in 1979, but not released at the time, only in 1991.  Not all the fans know those really amazing songs. Yes, they are covers, but like always with David, when he covered a song he had a reason for it. He also recorded a new version of his own song. 'Junked Heart Blues'. I wonder why. It's different, less dramatic than the recording from 1976. It's easy to imagine David sitting at the piano and playing it in some nightclub. It's more mature. Maybe he recorded with Kay, at the time his wife, in mind. Or maybe he just liked it and wanted to give the song one more chance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jexk9glmnv8&list=RDjexk9glmnv8&start_radio=1 Three Cheers For Henry!. Always, we all love him. But this title is from a very old article I've read today. I found at last some time to have a look at the website's updates. And in Fan magazine from November 1974, we can read that Henry Diltz ...

David Cassidy. Icon. New York, USA. 2026

Image
David Cassidy Music Walk Of Fame Artist Stone. This journey started in 2019 and it was a long and winding road, and I have to admit that I didn't believe we would succeed. Only over 3k fans signed the petition  (including a lot of no fans like family members, friends etc.) and only about 200 fans donated for The Stone. Some of them donated several times and large amounts..And we've made it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha4Ttn2RjzY&list=RDHa4Ttn2RjzY&start_radio=1 Yes, it's forever and it's unbelievable what David Cassidy's fans achieved. What we have done for his legacy. In the US and in the UK. All the fans from around the world have their share. This list is long. David's Star in Las Vegas, Cassidy Way and the historical marker in West Orange, memorial stones and benches in Saratoga Springs Racing Museum. In London David Cassidy Tribute Plaque Heathrow Airport and of course  Memorial Plaque at the Phoenix Theatre and Wembley Tribute. And many more....

This Could Be The Night / Harry Nilsson and David Cassidy

Image
Yes, I know, it was written by someone else and first recorded by The Modern Folk Quarter in 1965. Can you believe it that Henry Diltz was playing in this band, and on this song, and it was 61 years ago! And he still is with us, more energetic than many much younger, and so full of life. Amazing, wonderful man. He knew everyone, all those legendary musicians from the 60s and 70s and 80s, all of them, but David Cassidy was someone special for Henry Diltz. A friend. We all are waiting for his (and Johnny Ray Miller's) book.  So the song was written by Harry Nilsson and Phil Spector, or better say it's credited jointly to them, it was written in tribute to Brian Wilson.  What the song was about? Brian Wilson put it the best, 'Well, the idea they've been dating and waiting and finally they made love. I love the message.' ( Alyn Shipton, 'Nilsson : The Life of a Singer-Songwriter, 2013) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMvVpM8ub_c&list=RDCMvVpM8ub_c&start_rad...

'Play Me One Of The Songs..'

Image
Tony Romeo's words, from the song asked for by David Cassidy himself, in 1973. 53 years ago, but for us, 'Sing Me' is fresh and timless like it was written only yesterday. Lately I listen to it (and the whole album)  often. There are 2 reasons, the first one is rather private, but who knows maybe it will be an inspiration for someone in the same situation as I was. It's because that after years of neglecting problems with hearing, I got modern hearing aids. You can't imagine how it's changed my life for better, and how now I can really and truly appreciate David's music. Incredible experience. His voice got new tone (for me), and I discovered some new instruments in the songs known for me so well. So if someone has hearing problems don't hesitate, hearing aids are easy to use and they worth any money. The second reason are pics published on David Cassidy Virtual Fan Club a few days ago. They are unstoppable. Barb, Robyn, Karen and Joann. Together, with a...

"West Orange Misses You Too"

Image
It's too good to not be used as a catchy title. Karen Ranieri's answer for my confession  that I missed West Orange. And I really do. Since returning from the US at the beginning of last August I've read 2 Joseph Fagan's West Orange books, several collections of travel reports from that part of North America, some history books, and I keep checking what's going on in West Orange.  It's wonderful that Barb Schlamp Collentine, Joann Lombardi and Karen Ranieri keep in touch with the West Orange Mayor, Susan McCartney and other fans who live in New Jersey. And a few days ago Karen and Joann (and Joan and Frances) also met with Henry Diltz, in New York, and gave him a David Cassidy Way sign, and he was sooo happy to get it and meet with girls, and what's more he really wants to come to West Orange again !! It's just so wonderful, and I think we really should meet again there. We miss West Orange, but West Orange truly misses David Cassidy fans. We brought him...

Let The Good Times In / Carole Bayer Sager, Neil Sedaka

Image
The world has lost recently 2 legends of 20th century popular music. One of them known to every baby boomer. Neil Sedaka. His first single was released in 1958. He co-wrote (with Howard Greenfield) a string of worldwide hits in the late 50s and early 60s. He was already a classic in the 70s when I started being interested in music. Someone old and ancient for a teen like me. And in 1975 I fell in love with a song I heard on Radio Luxembourg, a song I had no idea was a cover of Neil Sedaka's.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QNEf9oGw8o&list=RD_QNEf9oGw8o&start_radio=1 I had no idea about many things, we didn't have much American music on Polish radio in the 70s, I never heard about The Partridge Family or its cover of another Neil Sedaka's hit. David often sang 'Breaking Up Is Hard To Do', his recorded versions of the song are fabulous, I love especially this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biH9WuuIfxc&list=RDbiH9WuuIfxc&start_radio=1 Amazing. W...

Could It Be Forever / Wes Farrell, Danny Janssen

Image
This song should have been known by everyone and everywhere. From the start, from the very first notes, so distinctive.. In March 1973 when David performed 'Could It Be Forever' on Estelar Del Sabado, in Spain, he was careless with the lyrics and deliberately left out famous 'but', at the time he was fighting for his artistic independence, and was not on speaking terms with Wes Farrell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha4Ttn2RjzY&list=RDHa4Ttn2RjzY&start_radio=1 It's Wes Farrell's and David Cassidy's masterpiece. The great pop timeless classic. Wes Donald Farrell died 30 years ago, in February 1996,  he was only 56 years old. So important figure in music industry for about 10 years, in the 60s and 70s. He co-wrote 'Hang On Sloopy', recorded in 1965, from the start a favourite song for countless of garage bands, and sure young David Cassidy, a drummer in his high school band, played this great hit many times. He also co-wrote 'Boys' re...

"Cassidy - Now A Phenomenal Attraction'

Image
I have read a lot of articles about DC, published in the UK in the early 70s, have own collection of them myself, but when I've seen this, I thought wow!  New Musical Express. October 28, 1972. The front page, David's pic and in extra big, bold letters, 'CASSIDY TOUR' Wow (again) https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Mag1972Oct28_NewMusicalExpress.pdf We can read (also on the front page but in small print) that more details are on page 3 and that David was "a phenomenal attraction for thousands of fans" and that "Cassidy's 'Cherish' album and his 'How Can I Be Sure' single are both No 1 in this week's NME chart". (what a shame there are no charts). This is just amazing.  Let's watch a video. David Cassidy singing 'How Can I Be Sure' in London, in 1985. I have goosebumps anytime I listen to the beginning of his performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_g3AxbW9-o&list=RDa_g3AxbW9-o&start_radi...

Up To Date

Image
The second Partridge Family's album was released on February 12, 55 years ago. In 1971. On Bell. There is an article on the website, called 'David Cassidy Young Self-Made Superstar', published in January 1971. The author described David, "A quiet, rather shy lad. But behind those calm grey eyes (..) there's a deceptive intelligence, an awareness. The knowledge of showbusiness flows in his blood.". David said, "The music we do, is bubblegum to the trade. I think it's a little bit better than most bubblegum. Sophisticated bubblegum. What is not is George Harrison. That's what I want be doing." At the time George Harrison's first solo album was a great hit. David Cassidy was young and he wanted to become an independent. recording artist. After  55 years the music he called bubblegum became pop classic, even the song he really hated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-J8ypGTWxg DC was 100% pro, always, deadly serious about his work, the qual...

We'll Always Have London

Image
Of course it was, 'We'll always have Paris', Humphrey Bogart to Ingrid Bergman in David Cassidy's favourite film, 'Casablanca'. So let's start with unforgettable David's performance on 'The Partridge Family/My Three Sons Reunion, in November 1977. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhIl93zAuJU&list=RDxhIl93zAuJU&start_radio=1 I think I watched this video 200 times at least, and each time is like the first time. Total admiration for his voice and his beauty.  'We'll always have London', David Cassidy and his fans. Each time in London, walking in David's footsteps, we feel his presence. It's difficult not to feel, because truly spreaking everywhere we go in London, there is a place connected with him. Places where he worked - the theaters he performed, recording studios he recorded his music, concert halls he played concerts, tv and radio studios where he was invited as a star, always a star, in every decade of his career. Hote...

David Cassidy's Songs Turning 50 in 2026

Image
1976 was truly David Cassidy's annus horribilis. Personal tragedies, and the end of his dreams of becoming a successful recording artist on his own terms. Breaking down again.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OooHt98QgKc On February 12, 1976, Sal Mineo was killed. He was stabbed in the heart by a mugger just outside his apartment in LA. He was only 37. It was a great personal loss for David, Sal was a friend since 1965, and they were always supportive of one another. David, deeply moved, paid for Sal Mineo's casket. In March 1976, David Cassidy's second RCA album was released in the US, UK, Australia, Germany, Japan, Turkey and France. 'Home Is Where The Heart Is'. Produced by David and Bruce Johnston, but it was entirely a David record. More than any other album recorded by him in his whole career. He was in control and wrote or co-wrote 7 of 10 songs, and 3 covers from that album were outstanding, and even better than the originals. Some great reviews appeared in ...

The Entry Number 1000. 'Darling David' by Jacque Cardenas

Image
This entry is special.  I've been writing about David Cassidy since December 2020, I feel like it was only a moment ago, but actually 5 years, and today the time has come for the entry no 1000. But first a song. The title of it was the title of the first entry published on this blog. Btw. the title of my blog is 'David Cassidy Being Together'.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFCpbdtwQac Today you are going to read a great and moving story, one more David Cassidy experience. Like each and all of them it's moving and emotional. It'll make you smile and it'll make you sad. I can relate to many thoughts shared by the author. The story is written by a fellow fan and my FB friend from the US, Jacque Cardenas.  Darling David It's been 55 years since The Partridge Family aired, 51-53 years since my first crush registered in my mind, 8 years since his untimely death, and almost 2 years since David Bruce Cassidy returned to my heart. I was just growing out of my infa...

Some New Updates 2025

Image
Let's start with a song. I love David Cassidy's Christmas songs, those recorded in summer of 1971 for The Partridge Family, and those recorded 45 years later with his wonderful band, in August 2016. Such a great blusy feeling in this number, like a couple of very tired and merry Santas met at the bar and were singing together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCq2fSFnwmY This year a lot of unknown issues of many magazines, mostly European, have been published on The Official  Website of David Cassidy. Among them many Bravo's articles (with translation) and its David's posters from the 70s and 80s. 'Bravo', a German weekly mag, was for teens interested in career and love life of current pop stars. Relationship and sex counceling were important part of this magazine popular throughout Europe. So we can read a lot also about David's love life. How he always loved girls and had many, about his wives, and some stories about those lucky girls who got to know him be...
